Migrants returning to Kerala from Saudi Arabia tend to exhibit conservative values re: gender-based violence & extreme attitudes pertaining to the perpetration of physical violence against women--when compared with those who have no migration experience https://t.co/Y72htlkQEP
These are disturbing reports. Kerala has long been host to a liberal, progressive practice of Islam, fully in tune with the coexistence and communal harmony prevalent across the state. Kerala is proud of its record of educating Muslim girls and women to the same levels as boys and men. The import of conservative and even reactionary attitudes and customs from abroad, as suggested by this report, is fundamentally at variance with what Kerala has long been about. This requires serious introspection and internal discussion within the Muslim community as well.
By the late medieval period, Hindu architecture texts differentiated between a bathroom (स्नानगृह) and a lavatory (पुरीशगृह) while describing the layout of a house. In the text Vastu-tattva, a lavatory is included amongst other components of the house.
This is why so many redemption arcs fail to capture what makes Zuko's so good. He genuinely acted like a piece of shit. What makes the redemption work is that he owns up to it. He doesn't expect everyone to forgive him.
David is mentioned in the Tel Dan Stele, Mesha Stele, and possibly (albeit unlikely) the Shoshenq I Inscription at Karnak. So Solomon was also likely historical, at least as a minor tribal chieftain ruling over a sprawling highland Iron Age village of Jerusalem.
The real problem is that Ophir is not India.
See Klaus Karttunen:
This fish was not caught in a river; it emerged from a borewell.
The tiny Gangaichthys indonepalicus was found in underground water in Bihar. It has skin-covered eyes & appears to have no ribs- adaptations for surviving in complete darkness.
Didn't want to comment on this but since this pic is going viral & people are reacting - these folks aren't 'princes' per se but rulers of small zamindaris around Cuttack & Jajpur. The middle one is from Madhupuragada. Not sure abt the other two.
Onam is a Malayali-Hindu festival celebrated religiously by Hindus and superficially/culturally by non Hindus. It is a good example of Sanatani Xian. Civilisationally Hindu, Theologically Xian.
As per secular liberals, there are no Hindu festivals at all. They are all related to harvest, season lauda lassan instead. The reason they do this is hatred of Hindus and Hinduism. Their idea is to demonise Hs/Hism, but if not possible due to high popularity(Onam, Pongal, Durga Puja, Basant), to subvert it by appropriating it as a secular festival. Unpopular is demonised, popular is appropriated.
In the 1990s power-starved India was trying to build a dam in Gujarat. The dam would generate electricity and bring canals to the country’s driest regions. A woman led a protest against it, and the fight dragged on for years.
At the same time China was building the Three Gorges Dam. India and China had comparable GDPs back then.
India completed its dam after a decade of protests and delays.
China finished its massive dam earlier, then used that power to build factories, infrastructure and more dams, lifting itself out of poverty.
All of the pathetic excuses for humans who're commenting about the force of the slap, rather than the fact that the teacher raised her hand at all, need to genuinely go and jump off a bridge. At least they'll be of more use to society as fertilizer than in their present form
