We learned that the driver was trying to overtake another vehicle, possibly a truck or a bus. While attempting to overtake from the left, the vehicle entered the lane in which Sarthak was riding and hit him at high speed near the Rajokri flyover. After knocking him down, they left him lying on the road and fled the spot. I cannot tell you exactly what happened after that because I was not there. The accident took place on the morning of June 25, but I received a call from the police only at around 10 pm on June 26. They told me, 'We have caught the accused. Please come and identify them.' Even then, they said it would take more time because the accused had been sent to Safdarjung Hospital for blood and alcohol tests. Just imagine the timeline, from the morning of June 25 until the night of June 26. What happened during all those hours? Why did it take so long? The police already had the vehicle's registration number because someone who witnessed the accident had photographed the SUV and shared the registration number with them. Despite having that information, it took them nearly 40 to 50 hours to identify and apprehend the accused. As far as we know, blood samples were collected, but after that, the accused were released. Today, both of those young men are roaming free, while our son is no longer with us."

STORY | At least 12 students killed in Lucknow building fire

At least 12 students were killed after a massive fire blazed through a three-floor commercial building in a residential area in north Lucknow on a busy Monday afternoon, trapping several people.

Eyewitnesses said several people jumped out of the building as fire engulfed the structure that houses a pet clinic as well as a centre for students.

Fourteen fire tenders, including a hydraulic platform vehicle, were deployed to control the blaze that was reported at around 3 pm from the building located at Usha Mehta Marg in the Aliganj area.
