Today is the clubs Peter Jaques memorial game. Whilst more photos will come later, it’s safe to say that this Risinghurst man has enjoyed his weekend, but did not enjoy running a three….
Then, with 10 required and Ainesh, Risinghurst’s no. 11 having seen off 5 balls in the over with no intent to run, the Sparrows skipper went on to mankad Ishaq to win the game, much to the disgust of half of his own team. It says a lot when an umpire asks you NOT to pay him!!!!!
In a game that could have gone down as an all time thriller, sadly our 10-run loss to Golden Sparrows today will instead go down as one of the worst displays of sportsmanship you’ll ever see.
Whilst the umpiring decisions (home umpire doing both ends…) could have a thread to itself, we’ll focus on the runout of Khan with 25 required, where the home skipper dropped the ball but took the bails off and claimed it, given out despite the ball being a meter away.
You have to stop and ask the question… why? What’s the point?
A big thank you to the usual local vandals for giving us another fix-it job this evening.
The second team start their season with a low-scoring thriller, setting the visitors a total of 90 to win, but Benolin taking 4-16 and Wakefield 4-2 turned the tide, winning by 17 runs!
The week ahead:
Risinghurst 1 - Away at Garsington
Risinghurst 2 - Home to Sunningwell
League cricket returns and the forecast is positive. We hope to see you at Grovelands Road!
Thank you to all of the volunteers today who have helped to prepare the grounds for the season. Still a few more jobs to go (and a lot of rolling!) but preparation is going well.
Our away friendly has unfortunately been cancelled this weekend, so we are on the lookout for an away Saturday game for a mixed Div 5/Div 6 level team. Is anyone in Oxfordshire available?
Final plans are being made for the #getsetweekend at Risinghurst. We have a number of volunteers but more are always appreciated - please let us know if you can make it! Lots to do to get the ground ready for the season.
A great win for the 2’s in the cup, turning over yesterdays opponents East and West Hendred on a trick track at Grovelands Road.
Praneel 39, took us to a 124 total which felt like 200.
Skipper, Wakefield, took 4-17 off 7 overs to secure the win by 28 runs. On to the next round!
Risinghurst’s second charity T20 game was a great success this year, once again in the memory of the clubs late groundsman Peter Jaques. It was good to have members of the community playing as well as the wider team.
