@Tlmsinw@NorthBritannia @MarieAnnUK Unfortunately, people did vote against their best interests. And now we no longer have free trade with our largest market, no longer have freedom of movt, allowing us to recruit qualified staff from the EU, and we no longer benefit from all the trade deals negotiated by the EU.
@Vaughan76088411 @MarieAnnUK Prior to joinung the EU, Britain was a basket case, and the EU was seen as our saviour, welcomed by a vast majority in a confirmatory vote.
@bradfordlad5 @EmbarrassedBrit@UKLabour It’s a failure to read the mood of the country today. #the “rejoiners” are now polling at 58%, with just 42% maintaining a “leave” preference.
@mrjamesob@StevePeers Fascists then, fascists now, and supermarkets still stock this rag on their shelves. There needs to be a campaign to have them removed to 'adult' stores for Tories. #GeneralElectionN0W
@jwahjwah @2Julie2R Big benefit found (for some)! It will not be necessary to comply with the new EU tax avoidance rules, so you can carry on with your companies or trusts in the usual offshore tax havens, and relax in your luxury yacht; (Not sure who is the real owner).
@tribelaw@sarahbowlesuk Maybe the fact that the tax take In Finland is 43.3% of gdp (2020), while the same ratio for the UK is 33.3% (2020) has something to do with it. Higher incomes need higher taxes in the UK; rates used to be up to 83% before Thatcher created the divided society with top rate 45%.
@JennieGow You are not alone. I had a “small” stroke about 18 months ago, and recently have got myseld a motorised wheelchair, which has made so much difference to my life as I am close to town. I haven’t yet been in a shop, though I have made it to a restaurant. But I’m very old now.
@lucysiegle Yes he was incisive and brilliant, but he made the fateful error when in office, oftrying to arrange his tax affairs (no doubt with accountant’s guidance) in the most advantageous, but not legally acceptable, manner. Shame.
@Terry_Bull19@LucyWoodslucy70 Being unable to pay Council Tax should not result in a jail sentence. It could, perhaps, result in someone else managing your finances for a period. Many people could benefit from this.
