The Rochester Police Department is set to get $6.3 million for the 2022 budget. After a $2.25 million allocation in June, that adjusts the budget +$8.55 million. That places the budget at $99.35 million, about $700k higher than 2020, despite budget cuts the two following years.

Anytime you hear a “rise in crime” or “spike in shootings,” remember: whatever they claim, it’s happening despite investing most on policing in the history of the world. A brutal indictment of the efficacy of policing. Yet police are using their failures to get even more?
Losing faith in this political system isn’t “defeatist.” It’s realistic, and it’s the first step towards creating something new and better that actually serves the people, not the rich.
We invested in more cops to address the increase in violence in Rochester and the numbers have yet to stop increasing. Why? Because cops don’t stop crime from happening.
Stop investing in the police, and start investing in community based violence prevention programs.
