Article 3 of my African Trade Intelligence series is out.
AfCFTA will not scale through treaties and declarations alone. It must become usable by firms.
The endgame is not merely a free trade agreement.

Taking a little more time with Article 3 of my African Trade Intelligence series.
The question is too important to rush: how can AfCFTA move from treaty promise to practical execution?
Coming shortly.

Many African firms are not necessarily unviable.
They are under-documented. Their transactions may be real, but invisible to formal finance.
That is a data gap — and an Africa AI opportunity.

Capital follows visibility.
Where trade data is fragmented, risk looks higher than it may be. Africa AI can help turn invoices, payments, shipment records and buyer histories into financeable intelligence.

A chatbot can answer questions about trade.
A trade-finance intelligence platform can help a bank assess a shipment, help an exporter prepare documents, and help a DFI identify where guarantees are needed.

Africa’s trade-finance gap is not only about insufficient capital.
It is also about visibility. Banks cannot finance what they cannot see, verify, price, monitor or trust.

Africa’s trade-finance gap is not only a capital gap. It is also a data gap. AI can help make African trade more visible, verifiable and financeable.

Africa’s AI future will not be judged only by strategies, conferences or apps.
It should be judged by whether AI helps African firms export more, finance more, process more and trade more with each other.
#AfricaAI#AfCFTA#Industrialisation
Africa’s trade data is too fragmented: customs, ports, banks, logistics, payments, standards and firms all hold pieces of the picture. AI can help make that data speak to trade strategy.

Following my article 1 on African Trade Intelligence, Ari Chaim asked: "Roger Jantio to what extent has China’s pervasive presence and agendas to use Africa for its own purposes helped to impede the kind of progress that you are proposing for Africa?". Read my answer on LinkedIn.
Free trade opens doors.
Trade intelligence helps firms walk through them.
AfCFTA will scale only when African companies can use data to trade, pay, comply and finance across borders.
#AfricaAI#AfCFTA#AfricanTrade
Africa does not merely need more AI tools. It needs AI that helps firms find markets, move goods, meet standards, settle payments and secure finance. That is trade intelligence.
#AfricaAI#TradeIntelligence#AfCFTA
Africa’s AI opportunity is not chatbots. It is trade intelligence: using data to make African trade more visible, financeable and executable.

AI depends on data. Data depends on trust. Trust depends on institutions.
If Africa wants AI companies that can scale, it must treat data not merely as something to protect, but as an economic asset to govern, license and build around responsibly.
Africa does not need more AI declarations disconnected from execution.
It needs institutions that can lower the cost of trust, reduce the burden of infrastructure, create larger markets, mobilize patient capital and help turn isolated promise into repeatable scale.
Africa’s AI future will not be built by founders alone. Founders cannot, company by company, solve the infrastructure, trust, data governance, procurement, capital formation and cross-border market challenges that determine if Africa AI can scale. That is why institutions matter.
Africa’s AI future will not scale on founders alone. It needs institutions that build trust, data governance, infrastructure, market access and capital formation. https://t.co/gQtHSubF6e
