Have you ever noticed on your interval/repeat workout that your 2nd repeat is easier and more comfortable than your 1st? If so, you might want to rethink your warm-up. Make sure that your warm-up has purpose and that you’re not just going through the motions.
Cross Country: Just a day after news of tragic death of assistant coach Ben Brownlee, @RegisJesuitHS ran with heavy hearts in Thursday's Class 5A Region 1 meet and qualified two runners for state - https://t.co/4DoJjrhkWw @RJ_Media@ColoradoTrackXC#copreps#sentinelpreps#aurora
Congrats to Isalina Colsman '20 who has signed to compete in cross country for the University of Notre Dame. She is a four-year letter winner in three sports—cross country, swimming and track. #weareproudofyou#GoRaiders#RJLife@RJHSXC
Running helps create two skills that are increasingly rare:
1. When running by yourself, it helps create an ability to be alone inside of your head for a long time.
2. When running with others, you learn to fill time with conversation instead of defaulting to your phone.
If you finish your biggest race and don’t achieve your goal and feel a little disappointed, then you have the mindset of a champion. You can be pleased with your efforts, your season and the process. But an honest and sincere and unachieved goal should feel a little disappointing
How do you mentally approach Cross-Country?
Hypothetical
Race starts and no one started a watch. The watch is started as the winner crosses the finish line and a time behind is given to everyone. Finishes are recorded correctly.
Does this change how you view your results? Why?
One thing to remember during championship time when you know you are extremely fit. Stop being overly concerned with how you’re feeling. Feeling good is an unimportant factor toward success. Many incredible performances have been achieved by athletes that felt absolutely horrible
It is important to remember that September is the middle of the work stage of Cross-Country. If your training is going well but your not racing as well as you’d hoped remember that your training is more important right now. Great racing comes later.
Early Cross-Country races are not about results. They are about practicing good habits. Warm-up and cool-down routines and your attitude should all be perfect. The results will come in a couple months.
@MerrickCraig@mboyle1959 We ran this experiment in HS/college. XC wins.
Of course it's difficult to equalize talent. But in games that require much endurance XC runners win. Distance runners have more speed than most give them credit for, and your pure 100m guy is done after a little bit
