This timeline is diabolically crazy to me.

Trump hurt American farmers during his first administration. Biden came into office in 2021 and spent years trying to repair the damage to American agriculture and strengthen the farm economy. Kamala Harris was proposing to build on that work.

And then a large portion of rural America voted to put Trump back in office.

Now my TikTok feed is filled with farmers talking about how badly they are struggling. Farms are at risk. Costs are crushing them. Markets are unstable. People are scared they are going to lose land that has been in their families for generations.

And when they tell their stories, they are shocked by the lack of sympathy in the comments.

But here is the problem: you voted for leadership that was willing to put you last.

They did not care about your farm. They did not care about your economic security. They did not care about the people who depend on you to help keep America’s food supply running.

And frankly, Americans are exhausted too. Grocery bills are ridiculous. Everything costs too damn much. Every other day there is another recall or warning about something in our food supply. Hell, we can barely eat fucking ice right now.

So as we head into the midterms, I am asking farmers and rural voters to do something different:

Vote your economics.

Stop allowing politicians to convince you that sharing your religion, your cultural grievances, or your anger at somebody else means they share your economic interests.

A politician can quote your Bible and still bankrupt your farm.

A politician can validate your prejudices and still destroy your livelihood.

You are living with the consequences right now.

Midterms are coming.

Right the ship.
