An Election Unlike Any Other
I do not think we have seen an election like this in my lifetime.
The campaign moved from Trump and economic competence to immigration, sovereignty and federalism, while five parties remained competitive.

@SandyWhiteCA Fair points. What would make you trust an increase this time? Levels tied to housing starts? Fewer temporary permits and more permanent high-skill streams? Curious what guardrails you'd want to see.
For everyone losing their minds over the possibility of immigration increasing again, you need to understand a few things.
Canada dramatically reduced immigration in 2024 and our population shrank in 2025 as temporary workers/foreign students left. And population growth will be flat for the next few years.
That correction was necessary after Trudeau ruined Canada’s previously excellent immigration system.
But Canada has ultra low fertility rates, meaning our natural population is declining.
And we still have regions/sectors desperately looking for workers, even with high national unemployment. For whatever reason, our domestic workforce isn’t filling certain jobs.
I’m skeptical of anything this Liberal government does on immigration, especially if it sees population growth as a shortcut to headline GDP growth instead of addressing productivity, business investment and GDP per capita.
But Canada has a once-in-a-generation opportunity here.
As the US and parts of Europe become increasingly hostile to immigration, we should be aggressively competing for the best doctors, engineers, scientists, entrepreneurs and skilled workers in the world.
I’m not talking about mass immigration.
Think of Canada like a sports team.
We should develop the best talent at home, then recruit the best players in the world to make us unbeatable.
While years of terrible immigration policy caused anti-immigrant sentiment to explode, we can’t let the pendulum swing too far in the other direction now.
Canada doesn’t need more immigration for the sake of immigration.
We need far better immigration to help us become the richest country in the world, which we should be.
When an eligible voter needs help understanding the process, I believe the response should be clear and practical.
Help them understand. Help them participate.
In this CTV excerpt, I make the case for a straightforward approach to English assistance at Quebec polling stations.

A strong military means a more sovereign Canada.
For the past 75 years, Canada failed to recognize the value of possessing serious military power.
We relied on geography, America and our allies to do the heavy lifting for us, becoming weak and complacent.
Many Canadians talk about defence spending as though NATO is asking us for a charitable donation.
Every bomb, ship, drone and bullet is an investment in protecting our country through deterrence, or force when necessary.
Military power isn’t just about war. It’s part of what makes a country free.
@SandyWhiteCA Agreed, but a strong military only works if you take care of the people in it. Brigadier General Hummel was decorated and loyal, and he still ended up seizing Alcatraz with VX rockets because the government stiffed his fallen Marines' families. Fund the vets too. #NATO
@SandyWhiteCA Genuine question: if clinics like yours have open capacity, why isn't the funded group just sending unattached patients your way? What's actually blocking that handoff?
I used to think privatization was the fix for healthcare in 🇨🇦. Running a medical clinic showed I was wrong.
Privatization is part of the solution. But it’s not enough.
We need more PRIVATE DELIVERY of public care, accountability for outcomes/spending, and a lot more doctors.
Public vs. private is the wrong healthcare debate.
@SandyWhiteCA Aggressively recruiting the world's best sounds great until you realize we can't house or provide healthcare for the people already here. Ask anyone hunting for a family doctor or an apartment under $2k, aka me. That's not an advantage, it's a pressure cooker.
There is no way 🇨🇦 comes out of this tariff battle unscathed.
🇨🇦 imposes counter-tariffs next week. 🇺🇸 may retaliate again. This could escalate for a while.
The real test isn’t whether 🇨🇦 weathers this immediate storm.
It’s whether we ensure we’re never this vulnerable again.
@SandyWhiteCA Reconciliation and prosperity aren't competing goals. They're the same project. Capital + ownership + market access does more for Indigenous communities than any program ever has. The real question: is Canada ready to remove the barriers standing in the way?
