What a run. What a team. What a story.
@IrisJordan_ and her @RMGirlsHoops team made it all the way to the state championship after a true Cinderella season, finishing 4th in the state — and I couldn’t be more proud of what they accomplished.
I know this is a little delayed. Life has been moving fast — I started a new job, and my dad’s health has been on the decline. But sitting here on vacation, I’ve finally had a chance to slow down and really process everything that happened.
Not long ago, after two tough losses in January, I remember thinking (and even saying) that maybe it was time to end the season. That maybe this just wasn’t the year. But these girls proved something so much bigger than wins and losses.
They didn’t want it to end — not because of rankings or titles, but because of how much they loved playing together. That bond, that belief in each other, is what carried them all the way to state.
I’ve been watching these girls for over 10 years, and it truly felt like watching life on fast forward. From little kids learning the game to competing on one of the biggest stages — it’s been incredible to witness.
After covering the state tournament for years as a writer and scout, I finally got to watch Iris play in it. Even though she suffered a bad concussion in the first game, just seeing her out there, sharing the court with her, meant everything.
What stands out the most isn’t just the talent — it’s how much they grew to care about each other. It wasn’t always like this, especially in her first year on varsity as a freshman. The way the upperclassmen welcomed the underclassmen this year was true teamship. They became a true team, a family, something special, the bond people only dream of having.
So proud of all of them, and their coaches. This was about more than basketball — it was about heart, resilience, and staying together when it would’ve been easier not to. It was about defying the odds when they were stacked against them. It was about not giving up or folding when everyone expected them to.
And what a way to finish. ❤️
