Twenty years ago, Al Gore's film told us the climate apocalypse was nearly upon us. So how did the specific predictions actually age?
Take Glacier National Park. For years its signs warned the glaciers would be 𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐛𝐲 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟎. That deadline came and went, so the park quietly took the signs down.
It's a pattern. The doom industry sets a terrifying date, the date arrives, the catastrophe doesn't, and the goalposts slide to the next round number.
John Stossel's point on the anniversary isn't that the climate never changes. It's that 𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐦 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 — while human innovation keeps outrunning the doomsayers.
We were told to panic, surrender, and hand over control. Instead we got cleaner tech, richer societies, and 𝐟𝐚𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐲 𝐚𝐠𝐨.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐭 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩𝐬 𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥. 𝐌𝐚𝐲𝐛𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦.
Thank you, Alison for posting
And, as Alison said, we are a resource rich country & should be able to help those who genuinely need help
Providing the help is fair, honest and based on need
When it is not, wealth redistribution is stealing from one to buy another’s vote
That destroys wealth creation and initiative - the source of future wealth
Labor and Liberal Uniparty have been destroying initiative for decades
One Nation policies will restore Australia and fairness
Snowy 2.0 is not merely a destroyer of energy — it cheerfully incinerates roughly one-third of the power used to pump water 27 km uphill, all lost to friction in a glorious act of self-sabotage.
It’s also a world-class destroyer of capital and wealth - a bottomless money pit engineered with the precision of a government committee.
And we’re still nowhere near finished.
There are still many multiples worth of the original budget left to burn through before its even close to the first kilowatt staggering out.
Frankly, it would be far more economically rational to pull the plug tomorrow, pour concrete over the corpse, and rebrand the entire fiasco as a tourist attraction: "The Snowy 2.0 Museum of Government Waste and Renewables Scams."
As its centrepiece, erect a colossal statue of a white elephant — trunk raised in eternal bureaucratic triumph — with Malcolm Turnbull and Chris Bowen perched proudly on its back.
In the proud tradition of the Big Banana, the Big Merino, and other such monuments the majestic beast would be depicted trampling pristine native forests while a handful of tragically flattened koalas lie scattered under its feet, tiny paws raised to the heavens in a final, photogenic plea for common sense.
And it’s tail should be raised, symbolically dropping huge quantities of elephant dung burying helpless taxpayers.
At least then the disaster would finally start earning a few tourist dollars instead of hemorrhaging billions.
Visitors could buy commemorative “I Survived the Renewables Scam” T-shirts and stubby holders and pose for selfies with the elephant’s arse — the most honest representation of where all the money actually went.
And the tens of billions saved could be diverted into building several new coal fired stations, that will create actual energy and bring down the cost of electricity.
I was asked this question..anyone, anyone ??
Why was it a CRIME for Nixon to wiretap Democrats at
Watergate
But OK for Obama to wiretap Republicans at
Trump Tower?
