Grateful to @GovRonDeSantis for the opportunity to continue serving on the @MDCollege Board of Trustees. It is an honor to serve a college that has given so much to me, my family, and our community.
As Vice Chair, I remain committed to working alongside my fellow trustees, @mdcpresident , and the MDC team to expand opportunity, strengthen workforce pathways, and drive innovation.
Great to be at @EmergeAmerica in Miami Beach with @MDCollege.
As Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees, I am always inspired seeing our students in action. The innovation, creativity, and confidence on display today are a powerful reminder of the future they are building.
Behind every one of these moments is a team that works tirelessly to open doors, create pathways, and ensure our students are prepared to lead in a rapidly evolving world.
Proud of our students, faculty, and the work being done every day to support their success.
Yesterday, I had the honor of joining students from our schools to welcome Their Majesties King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima to the Freedom Tower at Miami Dade College.
We discussed the importance of mental health and making sure students have access to the resources they need.
Proud to see our students part of such an important conversation.
Honored to be named a finalist for Trustee of the Year by the American Association of Community Colleges.
Proud to serve as Vice Chair of the @MDCollege Board of Trustees and continue advancing innovation, workforce pathways, and real opportunities for our students.
From strengthening K–12 to college alignment to expanding programs in AI, aviation, and the trades, the focus remains the same: preparing students for success in today’s economy.
Grateful for the opportunity to serve.
Congratulations to MDC Board of Trustees Vice‑Chair and Alum @RobertoAlonsoFL on being named a finalist for Trustee of the Year by the American Association of Community Colleges.
As a Trustee, Robert has been a tireless champion for student success and innovation. His leadership has helped advance MDC’s work in AI and entrepreneurship, strengthen our Construction & Trades Institute, and elevate our aerospace and aviation programs.
As a @MDCPS Board Member, Robert is a driving force behind strengthening K–12 to MDC pathways to help us ensure that students move seamlessly from high school into college and on to successful careers across MDC’s workforce and academic programs.
We are grateful for his vision, advocacy, and unwavering support of MDC’s mission. Congrats Robert! 👏
Happy International Women’s Day!
Today we celebrate and thank the incredible women across our district, our teachers, faculty, and staff, who go above and beyond every day to support, inspire, and uplift our students. Thank you for all that you do!
As we look ahead to America’s 250th anniversary, today is a powerful reminder of the leadership, sacrifice, and bold vision that have shaped our nation since 1776. From the founding generation to today, each chapter has strengthened the promise of liberty and opportunity.
Miami-Dade Days are officially underway in our state’s capital! This is an important opportunity to meet with our legislators and advocate for the support and resources our district needs to help our students thrive.
I also had the chance to connect with incredible students from Miami Dade College. Proud to represent our community and keep pushing for a stronger future for our students!

It was great to see students from across the county in our ESE programs come together for a morning full of games, performances, and great energy. The smiles and joy on their faces really said it all. Events like this give our students a chance to connect, feel included, and just enjoy being themselves in a supportive environment!
Yesterday’s swearing-in of @ambassadornavarro as the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Peru was a proud moment for our community. His leadership, integrity, and lifelong commitment to public service reflect the very best of who we are. We are honored to see one of our own represent our nation on the international stage and know he will serve with distinction and purpose. Congratulations!
This morning’s Board meeting at Miami Dade College was a great reminder of the impact of our work.
We proudly celebrated our National Champion Volleyball Team and officially launched the Florida Center for Aerospace and Aviation at Miami Dade College—an academic center focused on teaching, training, and industry partnerships to prepare students for high-demand, high-wage careers.
Proud of the momentum we’re building for students and our community at Miami Dade College.
Today we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As he reminded us, “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?” We honor Dr. King by answering it with action, service, and a commitment to justice for all.
Grateful to Lt. Gov. Collins, Share Your Heart, and the Human Trafficking Coalition for a thoughtful and timely discussion, and to the community leaders and organizations who support victims every day. Proud to participate as a parent and School Board Member, focused on real solutions. The safety of our students remains my top priority as we continue working alongside law enforcement and community partners to keep our community safe.
As we wrap up this week, we celebrate one of our very own from Miami-Dade County Public Schools! The new Mayor of the City of Hialeah, Bryan Calvo, was sworn into office on Monday and is a proud graduate of Westland Senior High School.
While at Westland, he completed 822 community service hours, was part of the Early College and Career Magnet, and was an active member of National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Law Club, Key Club, and Mock Trial, a path that later led him to Harvard.
Congratulations Mayor Calvo!
Today at our School Board meeting, we reaffirmed our commitment to student safety. January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, a critical time to educate, prevent, and advocate for the protection of our children and community.
I was proud to stand alongside my colleagues and the @miamischools Police Department for the unveiling of a Human Trafficking Awareness vehicle, a powerful reminder that awareness saves lives!
American Senior High’s very own Isaiah Santiago is back with this week’s weather report!
Thank you, Isaiah, for keeping us informed! ☀️

It was a great way to start the morning visiting Palm Springs Elementary School! I enjoyed spending time with students, parents, and teachers who are excited and energized as we kick off a new semester.
This is an outstanding school with so many incredible programs that are preparing our students to become our future leaders. I look forward to continuing school visits in the coming days as we begin this new year and celebrate the amazing work happening across our schools! 🍎
