On 21 August 2004, a series of grenade explosions struck a Bangladesh Awami League rally at 23 Bangabandhu Avenue, Dhaka, shortly after then-Leader of the Opposition Sheikh Hasina addressed the gathering.

🕯️ Twenty-two years later, the victims of 21 August must not be forgotten. Political violence can never be an acceptable means of silencing political opponents or suppressing peaceful democratic participation.
