Last week I went to an exhibition by @710humanchain called Voices from the Tunnels, with the aim of doing exactly what it says, giving a voice to the 100+ hostages kidnapped by Hamas, still captive in Gaza.
As of last Thursday, some 1269 people had been killed in the Oct 7th attacks. Approx 240 were also kidnapped to Gaza. 136 remain - 132 from 7/10, including at least 25 people believed to no longer be alive.
Since hostages have been released, some have been telling their stories, and information about what they went through, and what they witnessed relating to others who still remain, is coming out in dribs and drabs and the volunteers who put this together want the world to hear their testimonies, for the sake of those left behind for whom time is running out.
The exhibit tells of the little boy forced to watch videos of the atrocities so much he left Gaza speaking fluent Arabic. Children as young as 6 are now showing signs of extreme drug withdrawal after having been given ketamine to keep them quiet. 9 yo Emily Hand still whispers and thought she had been in Gaza a year (she spent 50 days in captivity).
Most hostages were kept down tunnels, with absolutely no sunlight, completely unaware of night and day or how much time was passing, and being told to keep quiet or be killed. They survived on near famine conditions. A lady in her 80s was put into a medically induced coma on release as her internal organs had started to fail.
Some of the worst stuff now. Details of the sexual violence witnessed by ZAKA volunteers (orthodox Jewish men who have dignity to the bodies) - detailed male genitalia cut off and put into their own mouths to suffocate on.
HUGELY IMPORTANT:-
Many female hostages are thought to have come back pregnant. The huge worry for the remaining hostages, inc some 19 women, is that having spent 100+ days imprisoned, any women who may have been raped and be pregnant now will soon be reaching the cut off for when they could have an abortion. They have no access to medical care. There are eye-witness reports of 2 young women being kept in a cage smaller than 2m long. They were frequently sexually abused and Hamas terrorists would molest their wounds just for sadistic pleasure.
The sexual violence witnessed at the Nova music festival was so severe that many survivors are now on suicide watch.
After Maya (21) arrived in Gaza shot in her ankle, her foot was connected the wrong way. Doctors refused to treat Mia (21) because she was Jewish, so having been shot in the arm she was treated by a vet, with no anaesthesia.
Inside the tunnels detailed plans about the kibbutzim were found on walls, with info on the names of who lived in which home, even their security codes. It’s clear this attack was planned for years and with the help of those these communities trusted, employed and who betrayed them.
And last for this summary, I visited this exhibit on the 1st birthday of red-haired baby Kfir. He was abducted with his 4 year old brother Ariel, and his mother Shira. Their father, Yarden gave himself up to try to spare his family but they took them all anyway. Kfir wasn’t even 9 months old when he was abducted and the boys and Shira haven’t been seen since that awful day. Hamas filmed telling Yarden his family had been killed by Israeli air strikes in a sadistic act of mental torture. We don’t know what’s happened to them or what is true.
We do know time is not unlimited for these people held captive in horrific conditions by rapist torturing murderers. Especially for the women.
I went and I’m sharing this to counter the “they’ve all been treated like they’re on a nice holiday” Hamas narrative propaganda I’ve seen on this hell-app, and also to urge the official bodies who should be advocating for the hostages, to actually do their jobs and do so.
Released hostages have told how Hamas terrorists watch and respond to the news, the world needs to give them cause to release each and every last person they took.
