@MrBarrago@missdcox That’s one of the two things I was thinking. The other is that it would take me LESS THAN A MINUTE to work it out. I’m calling bullshit.
@DrRLofthouse All the time. Differentiation, AfL, formative assessment, metacognition… they mean different things to different schools. It’s tribal behaviour. Jargon is used to ‘belong’ in the club of the cognoscenti. It’s also used to exclude outsiders.
@giallo_punk@Miss_Snuffy They’ve existed at least since I was at school in 1982, although they were called ‘summer balls’ in those days. Also, it were all fields round here etc.
@PearceMrs@SaysMiss Yes but collectively we need to filter out the excellent blogs and real research and promote it. Conversely we need to call out nonsense from the EEF and Teach Like a Champion which, too often, is trumpeted as cutting edge.
@PearceMrs@SaysMiss You had me until…EEF. I’ve honestly never read anything by them that doesn’t state the bleedin’ obvious. I actually laughed out loud at this little gem in their ‘3 major takeaways’ in this document
@BadSchoolparent@Miss_Snuffy Incorrect. Uniform has *never* been used as an indicator of behaviour compliance by Ofsted. Adherence to uniform policy is used as an indicator of the quality of leadership and management however.
@Miss_Snuffy It is one of the things to tighten up on. The first? Probably not. Uniform is one of many indicators of the culture of a school, but not always. Just look at some Sheffield schools. Excellent schools, high attainment, great behaviour and…no uniform.
@ProudlyPastoral@MrJLauder Well, yes but…it’s a large MAT in a high density area. They do well to not PEX for the reasons you’ve outlined. They also have flexible managed move arrangements and more AP availability than, say the South West or coastal areas.
@MrJLauder@DixonsTA Yes of course. Lots of schools haven’t used PEX for years. The option does have to be there though for health and safety reasons mostly. Sadly, availability of AP and special provision is a postcode lottery. Where it isn’t, PEX is higher unfortunately
@teacherhead@ClareSealy It’s big in the recent Ofsted English report. I know some of it is nonsense but lack of oracy esp in sec schools chimes with what I see
