Whatever happens in the next 4 years, it’s nice to know that we have at least one centerback that we can rely on, and that epitomizes the #USMNT spirit.
I thought he had a GREAT tournament.
ATTACKING IN THE WORLD CUP 2026
The intention of attacking is to score goals.
Football Question:
How did the four semifinalists compare to the other 44 teams in:
• Successfully controlling (receiving) the ball behind the opponent's middle line
• Successfully controlling (receiving) the ball behind the opponent's back line
• Shots inside the penalty area
• Goals scored
Using FIFA's official World Cup match statistics, I translated FIFA's event definitions into Football Action Language and analyzed all 48 teams to identify the attacking actions associated with reaching the semifinals.
Statistical Findings:
Compared with the other 44 teams, the semifinalists successfully controlled (received):
• 5.3 more passes per 90 behind the opponent's back line (p = 0.002)
• 27.3 more passes per 90 behind the opponent's middle line (p = 0.01)
Successfully controlling (receiving) the ball in these spaces was strongly associated with more shots inside the penalty area:
• Back line → Shots: r = 0.707
• Middle line → Shots: r = 0.797
Both actions were also moderately associated with goals scored:
• Back line → Goals: r = 0.510
• Middle line → Goals: r = 0.582
Football Explanation:
Teams should always attempt to exploit the best available space.
Whenever possible, teams should exploit the space behind the opponent's back line. If that space is unavailable, the next best option is the space behind the opponent's middle line.
Successfully controlling (receiving) the ball in these spaces was associated with creating more shots inside the penalty area, and more shots inside the penalty area were associated with more goals.
Notes:
• All attacking actions were standardized per 90 minutes using total minutes played, including extra time.
• This analysis identifies associations, not causation.
• Only successful controls (receptions) from passes were included. Dribbling actions were not included.

“I could see within my teammates a bit of nerves”
“my teammates are like my brothers you know? so they gave me a lot of reassurance. it wasn’t something I could do. it wasnt something I could change”
they did not deserve all that extra pressure 💔
Remains the same that only a small community "gets it". American sport is not like anywhere else so quit trying to make it fit some pre determined system. 🗽
FUTBOL IS LIFE
Cristo Fernandez, known for playing Dani Rojas in Ted Lasso, made his professional debut on Saturday. Fernandez was a 79th-minute substitute in El Paso Locomotive's USL Cup game vs. New Mexico United ❤️🔥
@MattBinder Talent ID - better than it's ever been.
Need coach that gets everyone playing their best at the same time.
That's why you have the same group of coaches recycled among the biggest clubs.
@MattBruenig@Noahpinion The media narrative around them, for the purposes of campaigns. I didn't even know until recently his only customer for his oysters was his mom's restaurant despite seeing coverage on that race constantly.
