At the end of the day, this core group has won a Stanley Cup. That's hard to do. Most core groups don't do it. Ultimately, those guys get old & decline. The Caps will still be postseason contenders, but hard to count on much more. And that's okay.

Nicklas Backstrom is not sure what the next course of action will be for his hip. Rehab? Surgery? Sounds like it’s all on the table but he’s still hopeful of getting closer to where he needs to be. That said, “the hip is not going to be 100-percent.” #Caps
The lamestream, fake news hockey media spent 15 years saying Ovechkin was a choker and ever since the Caps won the Cup they have been saying "well yeah, but he's only won **ONE** of them"
The comparison is against Chicago and Pittsburgh, which is fair to an extent. They haven't achieved to that level, obviously. But the bar for success can't be "two of the great dynastic runs the sport has ever seen"
@RockTheRed 16 seasons since the 2004-2005 lockout, ten different winners. The days of dominance of the sort Montreal, Boston, Edmonton, and the Islanders had a generation or two ago are long over.
Winning the Stanley Cup is extraordinarily hard and if your sports column take is "The Ovechkin era underwhelmed because they didn't win multiple rings" you need to find a new job because you suck at your current one
