My go-to classic & skate ski drills mostly involve legs only skiing, or double pole only (with different cues to highlight the technical focus of the day i.e. aligning nose, knee, toe in rolling and downhill skate skiing).
Anyone have any drills they go to on a regular basis?
@waxprofessor Never saw this tweet, sorry! I think you can apply others ideas (and ideas you have used in the past,) if it works for your athletes and what you're trying to accomplish now. Loads of games out there that provide learning relevant to most athletes, just integrate at a good time.
Nothing better for coming up with practice ideas than following other teams online.
Second best is review your old practice plans from 5+ years ago.. I've found some gems!! (How did I forget about those! ๐ค). A good reason to hold onto your work.

@BStulberg Also find for me that exercise and meditation daily has helped me a great deal. Just my experience. Thanks for posting, Brad. Always nice to know you are not alone in your experience.
@BStulberg Some good advice I got from a monk.. When I feel a bout of anxiety coming on I think "hello anxiety, my greatest teacher, what are you trying to tell me". Helps me accept it (reduces severity) and has helped me understand my triggers.
Of course, therapy has been critical too ๐
I agree. And a common self handicap is to believe you can't be competitive because you lack facilities/equipment compared to a competitor. Basic facilities with passionate coaches & motivated athletes can go straight to the top.
#1 Minimalism - You can do so much with so little. Amazed to see people continue to design training programs based on elaborate facilities and equipment. If you know & understand the basics you donโt need much space or fancy equipment.
@coachgambetta Hi Vern,
Been coaching full time for 16 years, including half that time with the biathlon national team (to give a little background). Considering teacher education and then teaching high school. Any thoughts? How long did you teach? Enjoy the job?
@susan_cockle 100%. Canadian high performance system/environment = high expectations, high challenge, high pressure, and LOW support. System is broken IMO. Drastic and immediate change from the top required.
