Reducing extreme inequality is essential to increasing the size of the pie without increasing money supply / debt.

Increased inequality = concentrated money supply = less demand for goods and services per unit of money in supply….which results in lower employment, incomes, sales, profit & GDP per unit of currency in supply.

Countries have the choice between suffering increased unemployment & recession or to maintain full employment & growth either by reducing inequality and spreading existing money supply more broadly, to increase demand, or alternatively to increase money supply / debt with monetary or fiscal stimulus.

South Africa & the US both suffer extreme inequality but while SA chooses the resultant unemployment,
the US govt, has mandated the US Fed to ensure there is enough money in supply to support full employment.
The US Fed cannot distribute money already in supply.
Only captains of industry (who can pay their workers more) or govt (progressive spending & taxes) can do that.
Reducing pay gaps is much more efficient (no govt middlemen / taxes necessary) than taxation, at spreading money supply more broadly.
But they are unwilling to pay their workers more, and because corporations and the super rich have captured the US govt, govt won’t sufficiently tax the rich either.
So they are left with monetary & fiscal stimulus (increasing money supply and debt at a faster rate than necessary) to maintain full employment.
