Today in Poland, Russian artist and political refugee Semyon Skrepetsky, 44, was killed.

Skrepetsky was known for his biting political satire targeting Russia’s ruling elite, particularly Putin. In recent years, however, he had also become a vocal critic of Ukraine, a stance that landed him on the Myrotvorets hit list.

Predictably, 🇺🇦propagandists have rushed to blame Russian agents operating inside the EU for his death. It is a familiar script: every inconvenient death involving a Kremlin critic must immediately be framed as another chapter in Moscow’s long campaign of transnational terrorism.

Yet the story may be far more complicated than the ready-made narrative now being pushed online. Skrepetsky occupied an uncomfortable space between political camps, antagonizing not only the Russian state but also influential actors on the Ukrainian side. His death raises questions that deserve investigation rather than ideological reflexes.

I have experienced numerous Dutch friends and colleagues telling me about their parents and grandparents role in WWII as Nazi collaborators. They confided in me the shame of their parents and grandparents membership of the Nazi Party.

The Netherlands had one of the highest Jewish death rates in occupied Western Europe. Around 75% of Dutch Jews were killed — roughly 102,000 people — compared to about 25% in France and 40% in Belgium. That stark difference has generated decades of painful national self-examination.

The NSB (Nationaal-Socialistische Beweging) had genuine mass membership before the war — peak around 100,000 members — and actively collaborated. It wasn’t a fringe.

The Dutch police participated extensively in roundups. The February 1941 strike in Amsterdam, workers striking in protest at the first deportations — was heroic and remarkable, but also rare. The broader institutional response was accommodation.

Today we’re seeing the tentacles of The Holocaust Industry, in the form of The Forth Reich, as dysfunctional and obscene as it is, eclipsing entire democracies with total impunity and apparent immunity to the rules of International Law.
The Netherlands has not learnt from their mistakes.

Jeg har rejst, arbejdet og boet i mange lande og mødt mennesker fra alle lag af livet – høj som lav, rig som fattig. Mennesker med lange uddannelser og andre uden skolegang. Mennesker med magt og mennesker uden indflydelse på deres eget liv.

Jeg har også boet i lande, hvor størstedelen af befolkningen er muslimer og andre lande, hvor størstedelen er kristne. Nogle var søde, nogle var åbne, nogle var lukkede, nogle var fordomsfulde, og ja – nogle opførte sig dårligt eller sårende.

Men én ting stod klart igen og igen: det havde aldrig noget med religion at gøre.

Jeg har klikket med hjerter og venlighed og åbenhed – ikke med religioner, uddannelse eller hudfarve. Det er ikke de ting, der afgør, om vi møder hinanden som mennesker. Det er noget helt andet, der gør forskellen i mødet mellem os.

Det er let at forklare mennesker ud fra tro, kultur eller baggrund. Det giver simple svar i en kompleks verden. Men virkeligheden er, at vi alle rummer det samme spænd – både det gode og det svære. Evnen til omsorg og åbenhed, men også til fordomme og hårdhed.

Vi er ikke vores etiketter. Vi er vores handlinger. Og på godt og ondt er vi langt mere ens, end vi tror.

Vi er alle sammen mennesker på godt og ondt. God søndag til alle ♥️
