How do you look after mental health in esports where the grind to perform is the standard?
On 2 December, Réka Burján, @MatthewJWatson, and I from the G2 Performance Lab are speaking at the Mental Health in Esports Conference in Brussels.
Since launching the lab this year, we've been busy behind the scenes, from developing our coaches to how we prepare our players. We've also doubled down on mental health and performance, bringing two more sport psychology experts into G2 to run workshops on mental skills, emotion regulation, and sleep.
In Brussels, we’ll share what we’re learning about player development, coaching and healthier esports environments.
Come join us in Brussels! 🇧🇪

bits of reflection from my side!
I don't post on social media as I used to, for good reasons however! 😆 Really happy with how far we've come in our gameplay and I believe we will show it on the biggest stage to come!
From what was a call with Alban about my investment - gaming cafe franchise, to a random passionate return into the competitive scene
to re joining the club I got to LEC and matured on, the story of G2 and Perkz means more to me than just trophies, it's culture that pushes constant growth, entertains and reflects on its actions and attitude - amazing continuation of the club I grew in under the leadership of @AlbanDechelotte
When I joined the team in April, I really had in mind I would be just kinda lowkey and chill a bit and do my thing on the side, but it instantly required my knowledge and experience to step up and take intiative, weeks after I was asked to be a HC starting summer - I wasn't sure I wanted to jump into such a spotlight so soon, but since the team needed a change I accepted the position
Firstly I was focusing only on gameplay, individual laning of everyone, mid game macro, comms, every factor that is needed for a team to be the best, after becoming HC I had to take on a lot more responsibility which is not only gameplay related, wasn't easy but also came quite natural to my character
Being on the team with such amazing and skilled players and reuniting with @G2Caps with whom I've grown with, who were all buying in into the idea of change and growth, pushing through scrim days with fire to learn and improve, while at the same time learning to not take yourself too serious and enjoy the job you're doing, has been wonderful experience
Outside only sees the results - the "Oh G2 just wins again, wow rest of EU is dogshit" but on the inside its battle every day and warrior mindset to overcome our own egos and challenges, and prepare for each opponent with grace and respect, to understand that on every given day you are able to lose to an opponent that might not be stronger than you *cough cough FPX2019* (call me salty idc) 🥲
The dominant playoffs run is nothing but a reflection of hard work put in and mindset needed for a team to succeed - big thanks to every single player for being amazing to work with, and Romain and Isma for giving me trust and handing over the "keys" of the team, and Rodrigo and memento for helping with my shortcomings and imperfections -
hopefully we can show some amazing performances - our team is fucking insane and I can't wait to see them perform at worlds!
Triple European titles for 2026, hell yeah!
-Summer was the riskiest split we've played in a while, first one with our newly appointed head coach. Such a big change mid-season could have backfired but the system worked. Cool. Perkz nicely pushed and we adapted around him, gg. It gave an interesting twist to our scrim days. Special mention to Nunu the Poodle.
-I want to praise how the players were able to lock-in by the end of the season and keep the grind on, far away from the narratives. Solid timing.
-It was nice to play only Bo3/Bo5 and to attend multiple roadtrips.
-Caps' HoL was intense in terms of content and bandwidth, but he handled it with a smile, and the result is worth it. Lots of cool memories! Congratz Rasmus, you legend.
-We started the split facing an incredible French crowd fiercely against us, gathered around their champion. We finished it in France, with the crowd cheering for us to avenge them. Kinda poetic.
-How long does the bald buff last? Will we sacrifice more manes to the Rift's gods? Stay tuned.
-Labrov getting Finals MVP as support is awesome. Deserved. Enjoy
-A few days off and it's bootcamp time! We'll go straight to the US (LA first, Allen second). No KR, I'm suspicious of the double jetlag EU>KR>NA.
-Grateful for our journey, it never gets boring!
Below you'll find the classic scrim results, the scrim-room white board, the words used during EOD meeting to describe/remember the day, and the 9dinners selfies
Bootcamping in Seoul was a nice start. Great setup as always, tyvm T1, excellent service, 5/5 would recommend.
MSI itself was a grind with a lot of Bo5. We beat TES (CN), lost to HLE (KR), beat T1 (KR) and then lost to LYON (NA). A nice succession of "oh man we're good!" and "oh fuck we suck" which ended up in a top 4. Overall a lot of valuable stage experience.
Internally, our team practice was getting unproductive. We were divided between 2 coaching philosophies, so we had to make a hard choice. We decided to empower the new approach by promoting Perkz to head coach, taking someone exciting to create a new project on a successful base. He will lead us to battle for Summer and Worlds.
EWC in Paris was a challenge, as the event was right after MSI in Daejeon. The tournament is fast paced (you can get eliminated by the end of Day 1), making it extra intense to handle everything. Perkz was not allowed on stage and we failed to implement any new systems. We lacked the accuracy needed to really matter on the international stage. GGWP KC, it's nice to have another European team beating CN/KR. Summer will be fun.
We just finished our start-of-the-split workshops, and I'm looking forward to our new adventures.
Thank you very much for your support. It never gets boring!
