While photographing President Michael D Higgins @PresidentIRL and his wife Sabina in Rome on Saturday, I was struck by how emotionally he spoke about Gaza. He referenced a heartbreaking photo of a 9-year-old, injured in an Israeli attack. Sabina had a tear in her eye as he spoke.

It is exactly one year since Russia invaded Ukraine and ruined the lives of millions of innocent people.

I’ve been reflecting on the people I documented fleeing the war at that time.. /1

The border crossing was a conveyor belt of people, mainly women and children, making their way to from Ukraine into Poland. I can’t begin to imagine what they must have been feeling. Fear? Sadness? Anger? Desperation?

What a lovely evening of festive carols at St Michael’s Church, Enniskillen earlier with performances from @LisaMcHughx, the parish choirs and the children’s choir. 🎶
