The S&C domain is awash with differing, conflicting and confusing terminology relating to “types” of strength
This 2023 paper by Lachlan James and co. (@DocLachJames) does a great job of bringing clarity to strength quality classification
Maximal Isometric Strength = highest force which can be produced against an “unyielding object” in a single, maximal effort irrespective of time. Think IMPT or other short duration, high force isometrics.
Heavy Maximal Dynamic Strength = the ability to express the highest force in dynamic conditions against v. heavy loads. Training with heavy compound lifts and typically assessed via repetition maximum testing. A strength quality that is not typically time-dependent.
Explosive Strength = the ability to produce high levels of force in short time periods against high external loads. Typically trained via weightlifting variations (clean/snatch) and other ballistic strength training exercises.
Fast Maximal Dynamic Strength = the ability to express force maximally against no load, or minimal external load in relatively quick time periods (300ms). Typically training w/ slow SSC jumping actions and assessed via the CMJ.
Reactive Strength = the underlying strength quality which contributes to the fast stretch shortening cycle. Fast SSCs involve high stretch loads, short movement amplitudes, limited joint ranges of motion & v. short contraction or ground contact times – less than 250ms.

Make sure you listen in it to this weeks #WhereIsMyMind podcast, where @daraquilty and @nbrez talk about Dara's new #1963 @apella album, and why he has made the incredible decision to donate 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this album to support our vital services 👏💕
We are delighted to announce a partnership with @LexusReading! We look forward to supporting their team and working collaboratively with them.

Lets restate this for the golf crowd
“a program focused on high-load, barbell-focused strength/power exercises had better outcomes than a lower-load program with a focus on unilateral & rotational exercises”
Stop looking down on strength Coaches because of what level they coach at. Some of the Best S and C coaches I have met are from D3/NAIA/D2/Highschools. Great coaching is great coaching and they often have to do it with less resources!
Unfortunately our Twitter account was hacked so we have had to start again. This is now our official account so i would encourage people to unfollow the last account if you can. Please share @GUIGolf@CorkGolfNews@OpenGolfIreland@finbarr_mahony

Clinical reasoning is as much about knowing the probability of what your patient doesn’t have, as it is finding out what they probably have.
Always test to reject not prove your hypothesis.
