Res 2771 unanimously adopted today by the #UNSC, renewing #UNFICYP mandate, with the consent of Cyprus, for 1 year. #UNSC supports the efforts of the #UNSG for the resumption of negotiations & reaffirms the agreed basis for a solution based on a bizonal, bicommunal federation.
#Cyprus has been elected, for the first time, to the @UN_HRC for a three-year term 2025-2027 with 167 votes from 189 UN member states that participated in the electoral process.

20,000 Greek-Cypriots and Maronites chose not to leave their homes. Today, 331 people are still enclaved.
Μore than 43.000 Turkish troops remain in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus.
Since 1974, more than 160,000 Turks settlers were transferred to the occupied areas, altering Cyprus’ demographic profile and population balance.
Geographical names have been illegally changed and cultural and historical heritage is systematically eradicated aiming to the eventual "turkification" of the occupied areas.

4 March marks 60 yrs since #UNSC Res 186 established #UNFICYP in 1964 & affirmed the sovereignty of the #RoC. UNFICYP has played a vital role in maintaining peace & stability on the island. We pay tribute to the thousands of peacekeepers who have & continue to serve in 🇨🇾.

For sixty years, #UNFICYP has played an invaluable role.
We are grateful to the United Nations for these 60 years of service. We are thankful to the troop and police contributing countries, and to the 150,000 men and women in uniform that have served with UNFICYP over the years.
