@RadioFreeTom Putin executed quite the hat trick - in an instant he solidified Ukrainian identity, strengthened NATO, and ensured that a large swath of the globe will despise and distrust Russia for decades.

There was always a small, but non-zero chance that one person could put themselves in a position to destroy everything we know and love. Unfortunately, we’re closer to that point than weve every been.

when american presidents appeared unhinged (nixon, trump), national security officials stepped in to ensure there were guardrails on the nuclear button

is this possible in russia?
we have no idea.

Kings. 57 years ago today, my parents, my uncle A.D., my Aunt Christine, and my paternal grandparents in Oslo, Norway for Daddy’s acceptance of the Nobel Peace Prize. People don’t often see my father’s parents and siblings. Would you please share this? #MLK #Legacy #Love

@DanHillHistory My son is just now reading a book on Lafayette. Lafayette is very well known where I grew up in eastern Pennsylvania. He recovered in Bethlehem, PA after being injured at the Battle of Brandywine and they even named a college after him in Easton, PA.

[Ron Engleman Jr., PE @RonEnglemanJr]

@AventuraObscura My grandmother once told me a bizarre story about her aunt who was known to give Paregoric to her children. This was to make them sleep - and more often than not - permanently. Family lore is that only one of her ten kids reached adulthood.

A really helpful distinction for understanding effects of social media on dialogue and civility: There are two types of communication culture--high context and low context. Social Media puts us all into very low context:

A source of rare earth’s is volcanic activity. Rare earth’s are found in coal, so it’s likely the same volcanic activity spread deposits over the oceans. https://t.co/fpltSgNKrm

@Lafitma @ananavarro Sometimes that can be a good thing. In Lou’d case not.

[Ron Engleman Jr., PE @RonEnglemanJr]

@JrCrownfelix @ananavarro It’s sad that being racist and spreading lies is profitable, but I’m afraid it is. I think money was an incentive to be more racist. It’s certainly true for most of the FOX nightly line up.

[Ron Engleman Jr., PE @RonEnglemanJr]

@Nick_L_Miller Very true. Another paradox is being totally exhausted during the week and just hanging on until Friday. Then being totally exhausted by the weekend and just hanging on until Monday. Repeat indefinitely. Parenting - the only true perpetual motion machine.

So thankful we have a @POTUS who believes in science and scientists.

[Ron Engleman Jr., PE @RonEnglemanJr]

@mcopelov 64% of the GOP - that sounds about right. If the GOP makes up about 30% of the population, then we’re looking at about 20% percent of Americans who have gone all in on authoritarianism.

@ykomska I don’t know why, but these 17th c letter cookies reminded me of something I haven’t thought of in decades - Kellogg’s Danish Go-Rounds from the 1970’s. https://t.co/0lkB5b6Qye

[Ron Engleman Jr., PE @RonEnglemanJr]

@MarkHertling @navalny The mindset of Putin and his oligarch gangsters is to totally dominate and humiliate their perceived enemies. If they get 99% in a deal, they will literally fly into a tormented rage over the 1% the other side “stole” from them. For them the other side must always lose.

[Ron Engleman Jr., PE @RonEnglemanJr]

@RepCharlieDent The Aspen Institute picked a good person for this job. You have been a voice of reason and calm amidst the chaos. Best wishes in bringing truth and thoughtful dialogue into our political process.

@AndyBCampbell @misstessowen Looks like the star of the next Pixar mega-hit.

[Ron Engleman Jr., PE @RonEnglemanJr]

@RadioFreeTom Walter Mitty, but with zero charm, no decency, and tons of baggage.
