55 years ago today, American soldiers committed mass massacre and rape in a small Vietnamese village known as “My Lai 4.”

About hundred US G.I.s and officers were looking for Viet Cong soldiers in the village. But there were only women, girls, children and old men.

This region was labelled as “Pinkville” by Americans — meaning it was allegedly pro-communist.

Thus, a “search and destroy” operation was initiated.

When the American platoon couldn’t find any enemy combatants, it went crazy.

US soldiers just shot children,
old men and old women.

Young girls and women were raped and then shot to death.

Bodies were dumped into ditches and the entire village was burned to the ground.

American military committed such atrocities numerous times during the Vietnam War, but were always covered up — usually by claiming that civilians were “inadvertently” killed during a battle with the enemy army.

My Lai massacre was so heinous that a couple of people spoke up.

However, only one soldier was convicted. And he spent 3 days in jail and 3 years in house arrest.
