"Your will be done on Earth as it is in heaven."
Alleviating poverty is part of kingdom work and baked into the Good News of Christ. And God's way of alleviating poverty for mankind is summarized in this one fact: God, not man, is the owner of the Earth.
@NancyRPearcey Leviticus 25:23-24, tithing and the system of Jubilee make private property on land indefensible. Land leases were the model and not land ownership.
Labor is owned by people, but the Land is God's.
Sodom's main sin may not be what you think it is
Ezekiel 16:49 ESV
"Behold, this was the guilt of your sister Sodom: she and her daughters had pride, excess of food, and prosperous ease, but did not aid the poor and needy."
Jeremiah 6:16
“Thus says the LORD:
Stand by the roads, and look,
and ask for the ancient paths,
where the good way is; and walk in it,
and find rest for your souls."
Leviticus 19:9-10 “Reap not your field right up to its edge, and gather not the gleanings after your harvest. And strip not your vineyard bare, and gather not the fallen grapes of your vineyard. You shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner: I am the Lord your God."
Psalm 1:2 his delight is in the law of the Lord,
and on his law he meditates day and night.
When was the last time you studied the Mosaic Laws and what it means to us today?
Happy Labor Day! While Adam was placed in the Garden of Eden to "work it and take care of it" (Genesis 2:15), laborious "toil" was introduced as a consequence of sin (Genesis 3:16-19). However, the land laws were designed to give relief and Jesus was the fulfillment of these.
What are these OT Laws that were forgotten? Hos 4:6 ESV My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children
