It's almost ready - the new (and improved??) CIS AIX Benchmark for AIX 7.2. #CIS#security#benchmark - Keep watching this space for when it is available via the CIS website!
Another new experience (for me) is that I'll be speaking at COMMON Europe in June - on Python on AIX (7.3). I'll be talking about the Python way of doing things - and give advice on HowTo Python on AIX 7.2 and 7.1. Differences there are! Differences you can manage!
So, long time no posting. But there is news. A bit belated - but after leaving IBM I became elegible for something special - POWERChampion. Proud to be.
The newest editor at https://t.co/cmDGyCWPBP am I. For AIX. For too long, basically ignored. But I’m working hard now and welcome comments. Thanks in advance.
Ugh. Just finished going through the steps. Sadly, the new benchmark isn’t on the download list — yet—. Checkout the CIS workbench (where you can also comment, open tickets, and/or just discuss).
@peteriwanoff @SimonDunbavand Actually, you could argue that this is a pre brexit issue. The EU, including UK, didn’t mind, or understand, the impact of closing many medicine factories- choosing to import from outside being “more cost effective”. Availability was never considered a serious threat.
@aklyachkin Due to the state of the documents, i hope to cleanup the the AIX 7.1 document this month. That draft will be the starting point of a quicker AIX 7.2 document. I’d like to hope for finished draft by the end of June. Remember, drafts need comments before becoming final.
@aklyachkin And, finally, just in case there is a real difference in the XML document CIS members can access - there could/would be multiple CIS XML releases.
But - for requests aka RFE - please respond on the CIS benchmark community - for better tracking.
Thanks for the replies!!
@aklyachkin The heart of all benchmarks is what value should be applied to a particular setting, or mode (access control) for a file. The level of AIX does not change this. And, in cases where a setting might be different - most likely, that change can - and should be applied to 'backwards'.
@ibmtechie@IBMcloud A year ago, before my retirement IBM (France) was in discussions re: AIX 5.3 and, iirc, vWPAR. COVID got in the way of me hearing about how it ended. Imho, technically doable. Remember VIOS 2 works on both POWER8 and POWER9.
@nakengelhardt 1st. Great!
2nd. Made me think of my mom, who bought her 1st pc at about 70, and nearly 50 miles from anywhere, set it up on her own, including a dial in modem (1200 baud iirc) so she’d have email. And then installed a voice to text program to dictate her letters with her mom.
