I spotted the Chairman of Lagos Agberos's car on one of Lagos’ roads, and I was amazed by the wealth and power he wields!
Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly called “Sego,” rides in a brand-new GLE 350 with an escort. His plate number carries his name, picture, and “official” title.
If I hadn't seen his plate number, given how they cleared the traffic for him, I would have thought he was a senior government official.
How he navigated into different lanes with dangerous speed and zoomed off arrogantly when the traffic cleared proved the power he wields. No one dared overtake his convoy.
And as he disappeared into the far distance, with his ghastly troubles, a painful thought settled in my troubled mind and stayed for several minutes. It dawned on me that these are the people who decide our future.
I have to ask, can a Professor in Nigeria today, who has dedicated over 20 years of his life contributing immensely to Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, afford Mr Sego’s car? Can a teacher in any Nigerian school ever afford a quarter of the amount the car was bought for, even if they teach for 30 years?
Then the painful reality hit me - Nigeria is a broken, dysfunctional society that rewards “antigens.” How can Nigeria thrive when it generously rewards Agberos (thugs) over its most creative, saving brains in critical sectors such as medical, academic, law, security, etc?
Nigeria’s dysfunctional society can only favour people like “Sego,” whom I consider the machinery the political elite use to sustain the status quo. Think a little genuinely, and you'd see that this is the reality across Nigeria.
Rascality rules and rewards the rascal, the illegal, the impune, the thug. The very opposite is what hard-working creative minds in our critical sectors get.
MC Oluomo can employ tens of Nigerian Professors and feed them, easily. Tompolo earns more money than some states make from IGR and more money than can pay thousands of Nigerian military officers dedicating their lives to protecting Nigeria and defending her territorial integrity.
Asari Dokubo is stupendously rich for doing nothing other than constituting a nuisance on camera now and then. Tony Kabaka (born Tony Adun) is among the richest men in Edo State, far more than the celebrated Professor Ambrose Folorunsho Alli can ever imagine, even in his next life.
Take it further; repentant” Boko Haram members get more allocation from the Borno State government than some of the state’s critical sectors. Nigeria’s “officeless” First Lady gets more federal allocation than key ministries like Health. And the list of rascality goes on!
When one sincerely reflects on these issues, one will find that these men have one thing in common - zero productive value! Their jobs add little or zero value to the country. Without them, the society will function even better! What this proves is that we run a ruinous dysfunctional system that can ONLY lead us to destruction.
While I congratulate Mr Sego on the large lifestyle the gods of impunity have blessed him with, I only wish that these gods can reward our productive, creative, brains as much as they do for Mr Sego and his like, if not much more.✍️
This time last year i was fighting for my life. today, i'm fighting for my life. However, there's a significant change in the quality of the fight and the quality of the life i'm fighting for
@amelia_tweetz I named my children so they could have a respectable name if they became the Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia. Needless to say, this turned out to be a TOTALLY unnecessary precaution.
I was only 9 months old when my own biological mother kicked me out of her stomach, naked and bloody, because I accidentally broke her water while playing inside her stomach.
I didn’t speak to her for two years after that.
The coach said something tricky in his press. He said at the club level, the president decides things or is in charge, but at the country level, he decides the players.
That tells me that if he had his way, he would have benched Ronaldo at Al Nassr, but he couldn’t, because that’ll hurt the marketing and the whole purpose of bringing Ronaldo to Saudi.
Ronaldo is the reason the league has grown in the last few years, his arrival made many other people join. So, you cannot bench him. People come to the stadium to watch him and people tune in online to watch Al Nassr because of him. This is what I could deduce when the coach made that statement.
