We all think of Herbert W. Franke, who would have celebrated his 96th birthday today. It is also an opportunity to say once again how grateful we are to all artists for making the digitisation of Herbert's manuscripts possible through their generous donations! @zkmkarlsruhe
Exploring the Harald Bode Archive at ZKM, SYNTH-Werk is reviving history in collaboration with the Karlsruhe University of Music. BARBERPOLE PHASER, our first reconstructed instrument, just debuted at Superbooth2023 in Berlin! @zkmkarlsruhe @imwi_hfm_karlsruhe @superbooth_berlin
In 2017 ZKM reconstructed the legendary video installation ‚Wipe Cycle‘ by Frank Gillette and Ira Schneider. It’s now on display at the wonderful exhibition ‚Signals: How Video Transformed the World‘ at MoMA. https://t.co/B6GUz92VNe

2/2 The work reacts to acoustic stimuli, its responses being nuanced by a measured intervention of randomness. Since there were no microcomputers at the time, Couchot tinkered the control system together from electronic circuits.
1/2 My wonderful colleagues – Marlies Peller, Christian Nainggolan and Martin Häberle – have brought Edmond Couchot’s ‚Semaphora III‘ (1966) back to life.
'Semaphora III' is one of the cybernetic "mobiles musicaux" developed by Couchot between 1965 and 1973.
