Three Tangkhul civilians including one women was reportedly killed today 18 April 2026, in an ambush carried out by suspected Kuki armed groups at around 1430 hrs between Litan and TM Kasom, under PS Litan, Ukhrul district. Several vehicles were damaged in the attack. The convoy was en route to Ukhrul/Kamjong after the escort party had dropped them at Litan from Imphal.

This incident comes amid nearly three years of continuous targeting of Meetei civilians. Disturbingly, the violence now appears to have extended further, with Tangkhul Naga civilians also coming under attack in the hill districts.

The situation highlights a grim irony, Kuki Narco-Terrorist armed groups continue to move freely across the hills of Manipur, launching attacks at will, while ordinary civilians remain vulnerable. Despite sustained efforts by central security forces to contain the situation, tangible progress on the ground remains limited.

In today’s incident, reports indicate that Tangkhul civilians returning to Ukhrul from Imphal were ambushed, resulting in fatalities and injuries.

It is also notable that the Kuki-Zo Council was quick to issue a clarification statement on the incident, though its relevance to the facts on the ground appears questionable.

Our Press Statement.

The ongoing targeting of Meitei civilians, including women and children, by Chin Kuki terrorists is not an isolated occurrence but part of a disturbing and consistent pattern of violence.

We are equally shocked by the firing by the CRPF, which killed at least 2 helpless civilians and over 24 injured, when they stormed the CRPF camp, venting their anger and frustration over repeated failures to prevent such attacks.

These repeated failures have emboldened these terrorists, giving them a license to kill with impunity while deepening fear and insecurity among Meitei civilians.

Transferring the case to the NIA is evasion of his basic responsibility to protect the lives and property of the citizens.

We demand government of India and the Manipur Government to take immediate, firm and conclusive steps to dismantle and eliminate the network of Chin Kuki terrorists.

Mere assurances and handling over the case to the NIA is an abduction of responsibility. What is needed is decisive action on the ground.

Tragedy strikes Moirang Tronglaobi Kuki militants' bomb attack on a civilian house claims the lives of two children; the area is on high alert as authorities rush to respond.
