Two years ago we had snow on Halloween, last year we almost broke a record high, and this year we get NORMAL Halloween weather. Temperatures will fall to the upper 40s with a breeze between 6-8pm tonight.
Off and on light rain is expected from Toledo and to the west. Heavy bands of rain are expected at times near the lake today. More than an inch of rain is expected in Erie and Huron. The rain total drops to about 0.25" in Toledo and less west.
Hurricane Melissa continues to weaken...The hurricane is impacting eastern Cuba this morning as a category 3 storm with 115 mph winds. While this is still an impactful storm, it is a shell of itself compared to yesterday at this time when it was ramping up to record strength.
The National Hurricane Center (NHC) put out a special update showing that the air pressure has dropped to 896mb (5th lowest ever recorded in the Atlantic), and sustained winds at 180 mph (6th highest on record in the Atlantic) as Melissa is moments from hitting land.
A seiche is likely today as winds push water from the western basin to the east. The current water level forecast near Toledo has the water dropping to 20" below LWD (low water datum). That means that some of the lakebed will be exposed near the shoreline.
A thin band of heavy showers is sweeping through the area this morning. The morning rain won't last long, but it will drop about 0.10" and leave the ground wet for your morning commute.
Heads Up...Our calm weather pattern is about to expire. We are tracking 3 big things in that forecast. The weekend weather maker is expected to bring showers and storms Saturday night and showers through Sunday with around 1" of rain possibly and 40 mph gusts.
Dense fog has taken over in Sandusky and Seneca Counties. Patches of dense fog are also being reported just northwest of Toledo. It appears that these areas are expanding. Give yourself an extra 5 to 10 minutes for the morning commute.
Who has frost this morning? Temperatures are in the 30s for most of the area. Wauseon has recorded their first freeze of the season. The lakeshore is the warmest spot in the area.
A frost advisory is in place for tonight away from the lakeshore. Lows are expected to reach the middle 30s. You can save some of those garden veggies and flowers by putting a sheet or a bucket over them tonight
Showers are falling southeast of Toledo. Mist and drizzle are present for the rest of the area. The next band of showers and a few storms will arrive late morning into mid afternoon today.
Rain is likely tonight and tomorrow. Rain totals are expected to be a little higher in the southeast part of the area, but most of us will see a modest amount of rain in the 0.25"-0.50" range.
A near record high is still expected over the weekend. Highs return to the middle 80s starting tomorrow and lasting through Monday. Sunday's record is 88 degrees set back in 2007.
Oh what a night! How much rain do you have in your rain gauge this morning? While there were spots that missed out on the rain, there were many spots that ended up with more than 1" of rain, and 3"+ has fallen in parts of Monroe County.
