One ever-important question in regards to global CC is: how will it affect me?
Well, that’s a very important question. Especially since humans refuse to do anything if it doesn’t affect them. For today, let’s talk about how CC will affect the UK and Cleveland.

Anyways, let’s state this in terms that apply to you. According to a report from the NRDC, by 2100, areas like Columbus Ohio are projected to feel like Las Vegas! That’s an average temperature increase of 13+ degrees!

If we keep on adding more and more ‘insulation’, it’ll become too hot for any plants! And that’s basically what we’re doing with the Earth. We’re pumping out so many emissions that it’s making the greenhouse effect stronger and stronger, making our climate unbearable.

One last thing. It’s important to remember that the greenhouse effect isn’t all that bad. Without it, we would be living in an ice cube! Like your average farm greenhouse, it helps keep the temperature inside nice and warm, allowing plants to grow. But…

What about longwave radiation? This is the stuff that gets emitted back out towards space. However! Due to greenhouse gasses, not all of this radiation can escape (and because it has longer wavelengths, they’re more readily absorbed)! Thus creating the greenhouse effect.

Shortwave radiation is the radiation emitted by the sun (in this context) that has short wavelengths (eg UV and Infrared radiation) and packs a punch (so lots of energy!). That explains why UV radiation can be so bad to our skin! It’s literally a punch full of energy!
