It’s far more likely that autism correlates with queer identity because of a desire for a sense of community and belonging. People being trans is never going to leave the culture, it isn’t a fad as much as people wanna claim it is. The issue is acceptance waning
I see trans as more likely to be eventually endemic than pandemic. Let me explain why.
I think that for as long as this idea exists in the culture, young autists will be drawn to it. The more prevalent this idea is, the more young autists and troubled youth will be caught in that net.
What will change over time is that the miscellaneously troubled and mentally ill youth without autism will be swayed into a different self-destructive behavior because they are socially motivated (rather than deficient) and socially intelligent enough to have noticed that trans allyship is increasingly not popular- so they will find their new allies.
But young autists will forever be very vulnerable to this regardless of how popular it is in the culture, because it is catnip to us. (After all, I was a little kid in 2011- this idea was not even remotely popular with my same aged peers, and yet, I still found it and stayed in it for 12 years).
Trans will probably, we can hope, return to being one of many strange, niche autistic subcultures and the personality disordered people will exit and wreak havoc elsewhere. All we can hope is that fewer autistic people see this as a panacea, while recognizing that Pandora’s box cannot be un-opened.
That’s my unpopular take.
@LifeNewsToo Who the fuck is they, abortion has never seriously been proposed as a solution to poverty. You’re strawmanning because you have no actual arguments
