On May 31, 1951, near Hill 420 in Korea, twenty-year-old Rodolfo “Rudy” Hernández was badly wounded and his rifle had jammed as enemy troops closed in.
While others fell back, he fixed a bayonet, grabbed a grenade, yelled “Here I come!” and charged alone into the advancing force.
The son of Mexican farmworkers in California, Hernández had left school at age eight to help support his family. Now, wounded and outnumbered, he fought hand-to-hand, killing six enemy soldiers before collapsing. His solo attack slowed the assault long enough for his unit to regroup and counterattack.
The next morning, medics found him among the dead. His injuries looked fatal, and they were preparing to place him in a body bag when one of them noticed his finger twitch. He was still alive.
Hernández remained unconscious for more than a month. When he woke, his right side was paralyzed, his jaw was shattered, and he had to relearn how to speak and move. He recovered enough to receive the Medal of Honor from President Harry S. Truman on April 12, 1952.
After the war he earned a degree in business administration, raised a family, and spent decades as a counselor for the Department of Veterans Affairs, helping other veterans rebuild their lives. The boy who had picked crops to help his family became a man who spent the rest of his years serving others.
Rodolfo Hernández died on December 21, 2013, at the age of 82. On a Korean hillside they nearly buried him.
Instead he survived, recovered, and spent more than sixty years proving that the story that began with a bayonet charge was far from finished.

WELCOME TO SEATTLE. I MEAN CUBA, COMRADE. 🇨🇺☔
You all know how I feel about Seattle. I live here. I pay for here. And I've been begging to move my job to Florida since my clients are in finance and they're all over the globe anyway. The answer so far? Wait until next year. So I wait. In the rain. Watching the city eat itself.
Let's take the tour.
🏛️ Seattle elected Katie Wilson mayor. A self-described "sewer socialist." I didn't make that up. She did.
💸 Washington passed a 9.9% "millionaires tax" on income. Signed in March. In a state that brags in every brochure that it has no income tax. Starts at $1 million. Just like Washington's capital gains tax started at "only the rich." Give it five years, it'll be taxing your garage sale.
🏗️ A Seattle architecture firm told FOX 13 that fear of the millionaires tax killed a major project. "An economic chill." Rich people don't build towers in cities that call them the enemy. Who knew? Everyone.
☕ Starbucks, born in Seattle, opened a Nashville office and told Seattle staff: move or lose your job. 224 got layoff notices. 120 of them turned down Nashville. Even the COFFEE is leaving Seattle.
📦 Amazon filed another WARN notice: 121 more layoffs across Seattle, Bellevue and Sumner. Axios calls it "the relentless drip of Seattle's tech layoffs." That's a drip like the Titanic had a leak.
🏠 GeekWire says Seattle's pending home sales posted the sharpest drop in the NATION. First place! Finally Seattle wins something.
📉 Venture funding in the Seattle area is down. An economics professor on KING 5 is asking "Where's the bottom?" Sir, I'll tell you. It's in Portland. They found it first.
🏢 Downtown? About 35% of office and retail space sits empty. No job growth in three years, says the Downtown Seattle Association. A $175 million city budget hole. And the plan to fix it? More taxes. Obviously.
🎰 Someone literally built a website to help Washington residents move to Las Vegas. VEGAS. People are choosing the desert, 115 degrees and a slot machine at the grocery store over Seattle.
And it's not stopping at the city limits. Bellevue and Redmond, you're next. The tax collector has a car.
We've seen this movie before.
🏚️ Detroit had 1.85 million people in 1950. By 2020, about 640,000. In 2013 it filed the biggest city bankruptcy in American history.
🌹 Portland? Already there. Just with more kombucha.
Socialism never survives. It never has. Higher taxes and bigger government chase out the people who pay the bills, every single time. Venezuela. Cuba. Detroit. Portland. Now Seattle wants a turn.
And yet every generation thinks THEY'LL be the ones to get it right.
Which brings me to Initiative 645. Washington, this one's on you.
✅ Vote YES on I-645 and you repeal the 9.9% income tax. Vote NO and you keep it. On the ballot November 3.
Here's the trick. The Attorney General's office wrote a ballot statement saying repeal "would decrease funding for public K-12 education." Money that doesn't exist yet and won't show up until 2029. They're scaring you with the kids. Again.
And it works. DHM Research polled 800 Washingtonians. Show them that scary sentence: 57% keep the tax, 35% repeal. Leave it off: 44% keep, 40% repeal. One sentence written by the government moved the vote almost 20 points.
The people voting NO think they're finally getting a piece of someone else's stuff. They're not. Millionaires own moving trucks too. Ask Starbucks. They'll get 10% of nothing.
Some of us are trying to save this state. But the people who fall for the same trick every single election keep outnumbering us. They keep electing the same people and expecting a different result. Einstein had a word for that. So did my grandmother. Hers had four letters.
Seattle, honey, you have the mountains, the water, the coffee and the talent. You're throwing it all away for a slogan.
Florida, please hold. I'm coming. 🌴🦋

🚨 WALZ GAVE ILLEGALS DRIVER’S LICENSES — NOW THEY CAN VOTE WITH THEM 🚨
Then: Tim Walz signs “Driver’s Licenses for All.”
Illegal aliens get free government-issued photo IDs.
Now: Minnesota election officials confirm those driver’s licenses let illegal aliens vote in state elections.
But I was told this can’t happen.
A license is an ID.
An ID is a ballot.
The law he signed is the path.
The confirmation is on the record.
Trump platforms a Black woman, gives her the recognition she’s earned, tells the world how great she is, invites her to the White House, puts her on stages, has her hosting shows, flies her on Air Force One, and makes sure she knows she’s appreciated and CELEBRATED, NOT TOLERATED.
And the Black community turns around and tears her down simply because her politics don’t fit the script. She dares to stand on what she believes in instead of blindly repeating what she’s told to say.
Did y’all treat Beyoncé and Taylor Swift like this for backing Kamala? Must’ve missed that.
Nicki Minaj feels PROTECTED now. Something she clearly didn’t feel from the other party. Where were all of you when her home was swatted with her newborn inside and she begged Newsom for help? NOWHERE. YOU DIDN’T SAY SHIT.
Worry about your own lives and stop obsessing over tearing down a woman you never cared enough to protect in the first place.
June 6, 1944. An American paratrooper jumps into Normandy in the dark and lands on the roof of a church.
By the end of the war he had been declared dead, held a funeral he didn't attend, escaped the Nazis, and fought his way toward Berlin in a Soviet tank unit.
His name was Joseph Beyrle. He's believed to be the only American soldier to serve in both the US Army and the Red Army during World War Two.
Beyrle was from Muskegon, Michigan. He joined the 101st Airborne, the Screaming Eagles. His buddies called him Jumpin' Joe.
On D-Day night his plane was hit by flak and he jumped early. He came down on a church roof, slid off, and lost his unit in the chaos. For a few days he fought on his own, blowing up a power station and cutting German communications.
Then he was captured.
Here's where it gets strange. A German soldier ended up wearing Beyrle's uniform and dog tags. That German was killed. When the body was found, the Americans identified it as Joseph Beyrle.
The army told his parents their son was dead. His hometown held a funeral mass for him. His obituary ran in the local paper.
Meanwhile, he was very much alive, being moved from one German prison camp to another.
He escaped more than once. One time he and two other prisoners jumped off a train heading east. They thought they were heading for Russia and freedom. They got lost and ended up in Berlin, where they were caught by the Gestapo, beaten, and tortured.
In January 1945, from a camp in eastern Germany, he finally made a clean escape. He went east, toward the gunfire. Toward the Soviets.
When he found a Soviet tank unit, he walked out with his hands up, holding a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes, and shouted the only Russian he knew. American comrade.
It worked.
He asked to join them. And they said yes.
For about a month, an American paratrooper rode with Soviet tank crews as they pushed toward Germany. He used his demolition training. He fought. He was reportedly welcomed by a Soviet officer who was one of the rare women commanding a tank battalion.
Then a German dive bomber attacked. Beyrle was badly wounded.
He was evacuated to a Soviet hospital. Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov reportedly visited, heard his story, and gave him papers to get to the American embassy in Moscow.
When he showed up, the embassy didn't believe him. As far as the US was concerned, Joseph Beyrle was dead. They held him under guard until his fingerprints proved who he was.
He made it home to Michigan in April 1945.
In 1946 he got married. In the same church where they'd held his funeral.
Decades later, in 1994, he was honored at the White House by President Bill Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin for serving both countries.
And the last twist. His son, Joseph Beyrle II, grew up to become the United States Ambassador to Russia.
Tennessee can't seem to execute them OR keep them locked up.
Convicted killer Jacob Allen Morley, 28, escaped from the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville, TN. last night.
Cameras show him getting over or through the perimeter fence in his prison uniform.
He's still on the run.
He murdered Cody Wayne Birchfield, 34, of Elizabethton in March of 2022.
His body was found buried under Morley's house.
A jury convicted him of 1st degree murder and other charges and gave him life WITH the possibility of parole in Feb 2025.
So, that's 2 failed executions of killers, and 1 escape of a killer since May of this year.
Great job, TN.
Here we go again with CBS. 60 Minutes ran a sad story about a Houston husband and father who was deported to Ghana in July. Moussa Diawara is not a Houston man who got a raw deal. He is an illegal alien from Mali who overstayed his tourist visa by more than ten years, and a judge ordered him removed way back in 2012. He had over a decade to do the right thing and leave or go the legal route, and he just kept staying.
And here's what CBS left out. DHS pulled his asylum file, and his reason for fearing a return to Mali was that he is gay. This man is married to a woman and they have two children together. DHS General Counsel James Percival called him 60 Minutes' poster child for so-called wrongful deportations, and DHS called the claim an absurd bit of fraud and I agree with DHS.
CBS has no credibility left. They keep giving us these sob stories and keep leaving out the facts that don't fit. These people know they are here illegally and they know they shouldn't be here. Lying on an asylum application to stay is not a sad story, it's fraud, and it hurts the people who are truly fleeing persecution and the ones who waited their turn to come here legally. Tell the whole story, CBS.
