On Wednesday 28 October from 3pm (New York time), I will present my report on the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran to the UN General Assembly, sharing the floor with the Independent International Fact-Finding Mission on Iran.
My report examines the harm suffered by those killed and executed; those detained and disappeared; human rights defenders, documenters and mobilisers; and the harm to people’s livelihoods and the environment. In each of these areas, the impact of the hostilities with the United States and Israel has compounded the repression by the Iranian authorities. In each area, harms from outside and inside the country converge. War did not reduce repression but intensified it, and the heaviest burden fell on those already marginalised. My recommendations are therefore addressed to all parties: Iran, the United States and Israel, and all States.

Another Voice for Saving Mahboubeh Shabani’s Life!
A welcome development amid these dark days: Bishop Peter Kohlgraf of Mainz, Germany, following the efforts of human rights activist Behrouz Asadi, has officially taken on the political sponsorship of Mahboubeh Shabani, a 33-year-old Iranian political prisoner facing execution in Mashhad, and called for her release.
Mahboubeh, a courageous woman who used her motorcycle to transport injured protesters to medical facilities during the January 2026 uprising, now faces the death penalty. A woman who risked her own safety to save others is now in desperate need of international solidarity.
My heartfelt gratitude to Bishop Kohlgraf for his humanitarian commitment and to Behrouz Asadi for his tireless efforts to defend Iran’s political prisoners.
We must not allow the Islamic Republic to take Mahboubeh’s life. Be her voice. Save her life.

My mandate has issued a call for inputs for my upcoming report to the 64th session of the Human Rights Council.
In addition to a general update on the human rights situation in the Islamic Republic of Iran, the report will focus on transnational repression, the impact of human rights violations on families, women’s rights, and gender-based discrimination.

🔴A Justice-Seeking Mother’s Critical Question Regarding the Iranian Regime’s Double Standards
“Isn’t killing students during popular protests a crime?”
🔸In a published video, the mother of Parnian Dabiri—a 16-year-old killed in Tehran during the January 2026 protests—states that today, on her way back from her child’s graveside, she encountered a city billboard addressing children killed at the Minab school during the war. Pointing out that numerous students were killed by security forces during the January 8 and 9 protests, she asks why the regime completely ignores those killed in the protests.
🔸She asks whether filing a complaint against the perpetrators of her child’s death would actually bring justice, or if she would instead be sentenced to death on charges of moharebeh (enmity against God) or espionage—and why she is consequently forced into silence.
🔸Parnian Dabiri, a 16-year-old resident of Baharestan, Tehran, was shot in the back with a live bullet and killed on the evening of January 9, 2026, while participating in the protests alongside her parents.
Did you know that the death toll reported by the Islamic Republic for the January massacre was the exact same figure the regime had used for several other tragedies in Iran?
Coincidence? Or part of a larger pattern?
How does the Islamic Republic construct false narratives, manipulate the numbers, and make its version of events appear credible?
Shahin Milani of the Iran Human Rights Documentation Center uncovers the tactics behind the regime’s propaganda machine in a revealing new report.

🔴Toomaj Salehi, an Iranian rapper, launched his song “No to Executions,” to protest the death penalty. He had previously been sentenced to death for his artistic expression and protest music, but his death sentence was overturned following international outcry, and he was subsequently released from prison.
🔸Salehi portrays two opposing perspectives in this song: that of a protester calling for an end to executions and that of a government official defending its use.
The song is being shared at a time when politically motivated death sentences and executions in Iran have escalated following the January 2026 protests, raising growing concerns over the Islamic Republic's use of capital punishment to suppress dissent and punish protesters.

Can't wait to read it! Iran's destiny has been intertwined with that of Russia since the early 19th century. The better we understand each other, the closer the day of freedom will be for both nations.

The persecution of Bahá’ís in Iran has drawn expressions of solidarity from voices across Iranian society.
In a video shared on Instagram, Iranian journalist and women's rights advocate @AlinejadMasih reads an excerpt from a letter by Mahvash Sabet, a Bahá’í poet who has endured years of imprisonment because of her religious beliefs.
Addressed to the people of Iran, Sabet’s letter calls attention to the denial of fundamental rights faced by Bahá’ís, including access to education, employment, and the freedom to live according to their beliefs.
Through sharing Sabet’s words, Alinejad draws attention to the experiences of Iran’s Bahá’í community and the importance of solidarity in defending human dignity and freedom of religion or belief.

Women living under death sentences, says Sepideh Qolian who was in a ward of Mashhad Vakilabad Prison with two of them, “are profoundly alone. I hope that tomorrow we will not be left asking why we did not know their names.”

A deeply troubling trend is emerging in Iran: lawyers who defend protesters are themselves being imprisoned.
The Islamic Republic's so-called justice system is increasingly being weaponized, not only to silence dissent but also to create an appearance of legality around political repression.
But why does a government willing to openly crush dissent still feel the need to maintain the façade of due process? Is it designed to legitimize repression at home, shape perceptions abroad, or both?
Experts tell Eye for Iran what lies behind this strategy and why even those defending the rule of law are becoming targets.
