The biggest mistake Crystal Lake makes is thinking Jason Voorhees needs a scientific explanation to be terrifying.
Secret experiments? Cockroach DNA? Endless family trauma? Since when did Friday the 13th need all this?
The tragedy of Jason drowning and Pamela losing her son was already horrifying. You don't need to turn a slasher origin story into a sci-fi conspiracy just to make it feel deeper.
And that's my problem with this show. It seems more interested in rewriting the mythology than understanding why people fell in love with it in the first place.
Not every horror icon needs a tragic backstory, a scientific explanation and a redemption arc. Sometimes the mystery IS the horror.

Massive Lennox Lewis fan and he was robbed with a draw in the first fight.
But itโs a hill Iโm willing to die on - Holyfield won this fight!
The controversy of the first fight clouded the judgement of this one.
There will only ever be one โReal Dealโ ๐ฅ๐ฉถ
LENNOX LEWIS vs. EVANDER HOLYFIELD II โ NOVEMBER 13, 1999๐ฅ๐ฅ
This was the highly anticipated rematch billed as โUnfinished Business.โ After their controversial draw in March 1999, Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield returned to the ring in Las Vegas to settle the score and determine the undisputed heavyweight champion.
Lewis used his height, reach, powerful jab, and accurate combinations to control much of the action, while Holyfield kept pressing forward, fighting aggressively and looking for opportunities to land his own punches.
After 12 hard-fought rounds, Lennox Lewis won by unanimous decision, with the judges scoring it 115โ113, 116โ112, and 117โ111. There were no knockdowns.
Lewis finally got the victory many believed he deserved in their first encounter, unifying the major heavyweight titles and cementing his place among boxing's all-time greats. ๐๐ฅ
Two champions. One ring. No knockdowns. One undisputed king.
Who do you think was the better heavyweight โ Lennox Lewis or Evander Holyfield?
But it was me wasnโt it you daft little fopdoodles ๐ ๐บ ๐ฅ๐๐ป

In 2019, Tobey Maguire won $15.6 million playing poker against billionaire Andy Beal. Beal delayed payment and asked for a discount. Maguire spent $500,000 on a lawyer and collected his full $7.8 million share.
In the video below, private poker organizer Molly Bloom describes what the Spider-Man actor was like at her table. She recalls him saying: โItโs not really about money. Itโs more about crushing souls.โ
Bloom remembers Maguire assuring an opponent during one hand: "Listen, I have the top hand. I swear on my mother's life". The man agonized, eventually folded, and Maguire revealed the bluff.
According to Bloom, he made a different demand of her: to receive a tip, she had to climb onto the table and bark like a seal.
Bloom refused. She says the standoff lasted 35 minutes: the game stopped while everyone at the table watched.
A few weeks later, Bloom says, Maguire arranged for one of the wealthy players to host the games at his house. The other players followed, leaving her without the game she had been running.
Then Maguire called her: โYouโre done. Youโre over.โ
Lawyer Tom Goldstein helped Maguire collect the money from Beal. In January 2026, the actor described the arrangement in court, where Goldstein himself was facing tax charges.
Beal had lost money to Maguire and owed him payment. Bloom refused to be humiliated and lost the game she organized.
Was winning the money enough for Maguire, or did he need the people at the table to feel defeated?
