There is a lot of confusion among Hindus regarding Yugas & Yuga Cycle, which were an astronomical necessity of keeping our Luni-Solar Calender synchronized & precise.

60 solar months approximately equal 62 lunar months. So, in the beginning, a yuga of 5 years & and a chaturyuga of 20 years was conceived for finer synchronization.

Then, with the advent of Siddhantic Jyotish at the end of 28th Krit/ Sat yuga, these were increased to a yuga of 1200 years (100 years of Jupiter) & a chaturyuga of 4800 years (in 1:1:1:1 ratio), for more precision.

Like this, these were increased upto a yuga of 432000 yers & a chaturyuga of 4320000 years (in 4:3:2:1 ratio), post-Mahābhārata.

Confusion started when a particular social behavior was associated with each of the yugas (created for astronomical synchronization) and when yuga duration of 432000 yrs was claimed to be from the very beginning.
