For Mental Health Awareness Week, we’re proud to share the voice of Amanda Large, retired GP and EWBG member, who found strength, purpose, and joy through blind sport—and particularly through blind golf.

After losing her sight, Amanda faced the same emotional and mental challenges that many do:

“It was quite a difficult thing to deal with mentally…”

But instead of giving up, she leaned into sport—first cricket and tennis, where she became a world champion, and then to golf, where she found community, fresh air, and connection.

Through England & Wales Blind Golf, Amanda now plays alongside people of all ages, supported by her best friend, her husband, and her daughter, who all help guide her on the course.

Golf has become more than a sport—it’s a lifeline:

✅ A reason to get outdoors
✅ A powerful tool to combat isolation and boost mental wellbeing
