During the Chaturmas period, followers of Jainism observe various forms of austerities and vows. Among these, Maskhaman Tap is considered one of the most rigorous forms of penance. A newly married Jain couple from Talaja has undertaken this difficult austerity. This Jain family’s spiritual practice, originally from Talaja and now permanently settled in Mulund, has drawn the attention and appreciation of Jain families living in Mumbai as well as across India and abroad.

There are two Jain families in Talaja who have been known to each other for nearly three generations. Bhavya, son of Hiteshbhai of P.M. Pedhi, and Dhruvi, daughter of Milanbhai of the Nanavati family, were married approximately one month ago.

Although financially well-settled and enjoying every comfort in life, Bhavya and Dhruvi chose not to go on a honeymoon or sightseeing trip after their marriage. Instead, they jointly decided to undertake the rigorous Maskhaman Tap. Their family members also joined and supported them in this spiritual austerity.

Explaining Maskhaman Tap, Chinubhai Nanavati said that during this austerity, only boiled water may be consumed between sunrise and sunset. From sunset until sunrise the following day, nothing whatsoever may be consumed. In this manner, for an entire month, the devotees sustain themselves only on boiled water during the daytime.

This Jain couple from Talaja, who chose the path of austerity and renunciation instead of worldly enjoyment and luxury immediately after their marriage, is being widely praised as an exceptionally courageous and spiritually committed couple.

Heartfelt and repeated Anumodana (appreciation and spiritual rejoicing) to both of you for choosing such a life of renunciation and spiritual discipline.

“कौन बनेगा करोड़पति” के एक हालिया एपिसोड में नीरज सक्सेना ने “फास्टेस्ट फिंगर फर्स्ट” राउंड में सबसे तेज़ उत्तर देकर हॉट सीट पर जगह बनाई। वे बेहद शांत भाव से बैठे। न कोई शोर, न नाचना, न रोना, न हाथ उठाना और न ही अमिताभ बच्चन से गले मिलना।
नीरज एक वैज्ञानिक, पीएच.डी. धारक और कोलकाता की एक यूनिवर्सिटी के कुलपति हैं। उनका व्यक्तित्व बेहद सरल और सौम्य है। वे स्वयं को सौभाग्यशाली मानते हैं कि उन्हें डॉ. ए.पी.जे. अब्दुल कलाम के साथ काम करने का अवसर मिला। उन्होंने बताया कि शुरुआत में वे केवल अपने बारे में सोचते थे, लेकिन कलाम जी के प्रभाव से उन्होंने दूसरों और राष्ट्र के बारे में भी सोचना शुरू किया।

नीरज ने खेल शुरू किया। उन्होंने एक बार ऑडियंस पोल लाइफलाइन का इस्तेमाल किया, लेकिन उनके पास “डबल डिप” लाइफलाइन होने के कारण उन्हें दोबारा मौका मिला। उन्होंने सभी प्रश्नों के उत्तर बड़ी सहजता से दिए और उनकी बुद्धिमत्ता देखकर हर कोई प्रभावित हुआ। उन्होंने ₹3,20,000 जीते और इतनी ही बोनस राशि भी मिली। इसके बाद कार्यक्रम में ब्रेक हुआ।

ब्रेक के बाद अमिताभ बच्चन ने कहा, “आइए डॉ. साहब, आगे बढ़ते हैं। ये रहा ग्यारहवाँ सवाल...” तभी नीरज ने शांत स्वर में कहा, “सर, मैं खेल छोड़ना चाहता हूँ।”

अमिताभ बच्चन भी हैरान रह गए। जो व्यक्ति इतनी अच्छी तरह खेल रहा था, जिसके पास अभी भी तीन लाइफलाइन बची थीं और जिसके पास एक करोड़ रुपये जीतने का अच्छा मौका था, वह अचानक खेल छोड़ रहा था!
अमिताभ जी ने पूछा, “ऐसा तो पहले कभी नहीं हुआ...”

नीरज ने बेहद सहजता से जवाब दिया, “सर, दूसरे लोग भी इंतजार कर रहे हैं और वे मुझसे छोटे हैं। उन्हें भी मौका मिलना चाहिए। मैं पहले ही काफी पैसा जीत चुका हूँ। मुझे लगता है कि मेरे पास जितना है, वह मेरे लिए पर्याप्त है। मुझे इससे अधिक की इच्छा नहीं है।”

अमिताभ बच्चन कुछ क्षणों के लिए स्तब्ध रह गए। पूरे माहौल में खामोशी छा गई। फिर सभी लोग खड़े होकर काफी देर तक उनके सम्मान में तालियाँ बजाते रहे।

अमिताभ बच्चन ने कहा, “आज हमने बहुत कुछ सीखा है। ऐसे व्यक्ति बहुत कम देखने को मिलते हैं।”

सच कहूँ तो मैंने पहली बार किसी ऐसे व्यक्ति को देखा, जिसके सामने करोड़पति बनने का अवसर था, फिर भी उसने दूसरों को मौका देने और अपने पास मौजूद चीजों को पर्याप्त मानने का निर्णय लिया। मैंने मन ही मन उन्हें नमन किया।
आज के समय में अधिकांश लोग केवल पैसा कमाने की दौड़ में लगे हुए हैं। कितना भी कमा लें, संतुष्टि नहीं मिलती और लालच खत्म नहीं होता। पैसे की इस दौड़ में लोग परिवार, नींद, खुशी, प्रेम और मित्रता तक खोते जा रहे हैं।
ऐसे समय में डॉ. नीरज सक्सेना जैसे लोग हमें याद दिलाते हैं कि जीवन केवल अधिक पाने का नाम नहीं है, बल्कि जो मिला है उसमें संतुष्ट होकर दूसरों के लिए जगह बनाने का नाम भी है।
खेल छोड़ने के बाद एक लड़की हॉट सीट पर आई और उसने अपनी कहानी बताई। उसने कहा, “मेरे पिता ने सिर्फ इसलिए हम तीनों बेटियों और हमारी माँ को घर से निकाल दिया, क्योंकि हम बेटियाँ थीं। अब हम एक अनाथालय में रहते हैं...”

तब मेरे मन में विचार आया कि अगर नीरज ने खेल नहीं छोड़ा होता, तो शायद उस दिन किसी और को हॉट सीट पर बैठने का अवसर नहीं मिलता। उनके इस त्याग के कारण उस बच्ची को आगे बढ़ने और कुछ धन जीतने का अवसर मिला।

आज के दौर में लोग अपनी विरासत में से एक पैसा भी छोड़ने को तैयार नहीं होते। संपत्ति के लिए झगड़े होते हैं, रिश्ते टूटते हैं और कभी-कभी तो हत्या तक हो जाती है। स्वार्थ चारों ओर दिखाई देता है। ऐसे माहौल में नीरज सक्सेना जैसा उदाहरण सचमुच दुर्लभ है।

ईश्वर ऐसे ही इंसानों में बसता है, जो केवल अपने लिए नहीं, बल्कि दूसरों और राष्ट्र के लिए भी सोचते हैं।

मैं इस महान व्यक्तित्व को कभी नहीं भूलूँगा। आज ऐसे अनोखे इंसान के बारे में लिखने का अवसर मिला, यह मेरे लिए भी खुशी की बात है।
सीख यही है—जब आपकी जरूरतें पूरी हो जाएँ, तो वहीं रुक जाना सीखिए और किसी दूसरे को आगे बढ़ने का अवसर दीजिए। स्वार्थ छोड़िए, संतोष अपनाइए और दूसरों की खुशी में अपनी खुशी खोजिए।

यही वह सीख है, जिसकी आज हमारे समाज को सबसे अधिक आवश्यकता है।
