They're all so excited for this they're missing that it's clearly a grift. It's run by a college sophomore whose only job experience is a sinecure at WelcomePAC, a job his dad (the Director of Electoral Programs & Finance Chair) gave to him and seemingly driving his car a lot
Johnson: The DSA… this is their platform. They put this on paper!
Abolish the electoral college or replace the two-party system with a multi-party democracy, expand the House of Representatives, implement proportional representation and rank choice voting in all elections… End all military and economic aid to Israel, prosecute US and Israeli leaders responsible for the genocide in Gaza
“Centrism,” is just performative compromise devoid of critical thinking, policy or ideology.
It’s a political vehicle that gives permission to do nothing in service of protecting a status quo that benefits large corporate donors and special interest groups who fund both parties.
Incredible.
A liberal coalition is finally forming to push back against both the far right and the far left.
This week, they launched @thepromise2026, a public pledge with 13 sitting Congressmembers and candidates signing on, openly breaking with the DSA wing while refusing to be lumped in with MAGA.
Their commitments:
"We are capitalist, not socialist."
"We want safety, not lawlessness."
"We are responsible, not reckless."
"Government should solve problems, not create them."
"We are mainstream, not extreme."
"We are proud, not ashamed of America."
This is the kind of pro-America, anti-authoritarian coalition American politics desperately needs.
More of this, please.
I mean this genuinely: I wish this was better. I want a real interesting debate about the future of the Democratic Party! This is jargony empty corporate gibberish that does not tell any voter how their life would improve if these folks won. This is so self-serious that it’s not serious at all!
