Apparently, people with ADHD get migraines and headaches at way higher rates than people without ADHD.
And nobody tells you this. You just spent years thinking you're unlucky, stressed, or dehydrated.
Turns out it's biological. The same dopamine dysfunction that gives you ADHD also makes you more prone to headaches.
Plus your ADHD meds can cause headaches. Plus irregular sleep causes headaches. Plus your disorganised eating habits cause headaches.
It's headaches all the way down.
"All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible."
— Frank Herbert, Chapterhouse: Dune
There is no greater fiction writer than an ADHDer at 11 PM saying, "I’ll just knock this out first thing in the morning."
Night Me is an ambitious CEO with a vision.
Morning Me is a swamp creature fighting for his life just to put on socks.
They have never met, and they hate each other.
There's a subtlety here that sounds like a joke but isn't.
Planning a hobby IS the hobby.
The hobby is doing research and enjoying learning things about something we've never done before. We don't have to do the thing for very long, we've already spent weeks learning about it. That was the part that held our interest.
We love that "zero to 10mph" initial burst of improvement. No, we'll never win a race at that low speed, and that's okay.
This doesn't mean "wrong hobby" or "somewhere there exists The One True Hobby" that we'll stick to after doing the research.
The research is our hobby.
My brain has exactly two settings for feedback:
1. "I am the most capable genius to ever exist."
2. "I made a minor typo in an email, so obviously I’m getting fired, my friends hate me, and I should probably start looking for a comfortable cave to live in."
There is no middle ground. There is only the pedestal or the abyss.
That feeling of watching the state of the world and thinking “we still have to go to work and act like everything is normal?”
Hold that feeling, it’s step one of the general strike.
