Intro for anyone! Anyone really
hello! i'm ruby. I'm a Pokémon ROM hacker, occasional content creator (when I find myself able to), and ffxiv hermit
This is the sona I usually go by, Devil Spawn, with humanoid version by @hamulette, and of course my WoL, Rubius
I really do not like how often this is brought up.
We all have jobs/families/schedules or any responsibility beyond just sitting on our asses all day. That does not mean game design has to suffer so you can shove it down your gullet faster.
@VeridisArpegius i dont think we're at any point where we can each other friends, just mutuals really, but i still hope that things look up for you, and hope you get more respite and a better place than you are now
This reminds me so much of Maudie Blaustein's story -- an incredibly talented artist, writer for Marvel and DC, actor who voiced Meowth's Pokémon, couldn't find a job (maybe for being trans?) and lost access to health insurance.
She died of an untreated stomach virus in 2008.
the moment a person gets locked in is when they learn the story. How did they get into the league? What is the team they're part of like (if any)? Do they have any rivals they compete with?
It's really important to show how effective storytelling actually is when it comes to making someone invested; people always want a story
A corollary example of this is with athletes. To anyone who doesn't follow, it's just some person that's good X thing but/
this isn't meant to dunk on anyone who just likes to make up fun little OCs to play dolls with and make neat character designs, but one of the most surefire ways to get people invested is to show people that they're part of a story that's actually doing something
A lot of people misreading this as "do worldbuilding to give your OC more lore", I'm sorry but no amount of OC "lore" can compete with making your characters part of a story where you use them as tools to advance the narrative and communicate themes and ideas
