Ruby Tiwari et al. engineered a short 22 amino-acid olive defensin-derived peptide that effectively controls #Botrytis cinerea through multiple modes of action: disrupting fungal membranes, targeting vacuoles, inhibiting protein synthesis, and reprogramming fungal gene expression. The peptide also was found to reduce gray mold symptoms in pepper plants, highlighting its potential as a next-generation, bio-inspired crop protection strategy. This study identifies a key antifungal motif (RHSKH) and provides mechanistic insights into how defensin-derived peptides combat fungal pathogens. Learn more: https://t.co/yPI6MAh5dx
