INTERESTING: Govt has summoned Meta’s head of public policy Joel Kaplan on August 5th. Tech official from Instagram also summoned. Govt to reportedly seek a written apology from Meta for removing PM post addressing students from Facebook. Govt has also reportedly also received complaints that anti govt posts are getting more traction.
Interesting because until now it was thought that social media narratives were controlled by govt and Meta was accused by opposition of batting for Modi govt. Clearly the algorithm isn’t quite so favourable any more, or so the govt believes. 🙏

Three prominent issues taken up by the IT Committee in its meeting. According to government sources to @payalmehta100 :

1- Mark Zuckerberg will have to apologise for the removal of the Prime Minister's video. A mere apology from someone from the platform will not suffice. The platform must identify those responsible for the lapse and take strict action against them.

2- Zero tolerance for child pornography and child sexual abuse material. If social media platforms fail to act decisively against such content, they should lose the legal protections and safe-harbour provisions available to them.

3- Why are algorithms such an opaque and confusing element? How do accounts like CJP end up getting greater reach than the combined reach of the country's principal political parties? Greater transparency and accountability over how algorithms amplify.
