#Rwanda under the leadership of HE president Paul #Kagame will beat anybody to make the country prosperous. We are behind our leadership just. @jadocastar
This afternoon, following the announcement of the Formula 1 African Grand Prix to take place in Rwanda, President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame hosted a luncheon, where they were joined by @fia President Mohammed Ben Sulayem, @F1 President Stefano Domenicali, key private sector leaders on the continent and partners from the motorsports community.
βIt is an honour and privilege for Rwanda to be chosen as a destination in the Formula One calendar. What brought us together is a shared conviction that Africa has the potential to elevate the quality of motorsports as a global and elite discipline.
Integrating African markets with global sports franchises and competitions offers transformative opportunities. Yet, if we have to be honest with ourselves, this cross-border connection has existed for a long time, just not in Africaβs favour.
The message for all of us is simple: sports is a great equalizer, but we have to be intentional about delivering this promise. Rwanda is happy and excited to be part of a journey that will change how Africa is perceived in the world of sports. We want to contribute, not just participate, and this new chapter in motorsports starts today" President Kagame | Formula 1 African Grand Prix Announcement
This morning at BK Arena, President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame are joined by Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1 @F1, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, President of the @fia, and other distinguished guests and stakeholders for a special announcement ceremony. President Kagame responds to those who say: "Formula 1 is too big for a small country like Rwanda."
I tell those people to take a deep breath and calm down, and wait to see what is coming.
First, we are people, like the people of other parts of the world. There is nothing, no event, nothing that is bigger than people.
So, we are a small country, but we are a people.
Formula One is big indeed, but it is not a goal just in itself. In fact, Formula One is part of the big picture of what Rwanda has to do.
We made progress as a country, as a people, but also for this particular Formula One, as a sport for Africa.
We are not looking at just Rwanda alone. We are looking at Rwanda in the context of the continent, and we have indeed ambitions to bring in other African brothers and sisters to participate.
It is Rwandan, it is African, and it is a big deal that we are very happy to be associated with.
