Personally: walking, running, or bicycling whenever I can. Professionally: researching how to make these modes safe, comfortable, and accessible. (she/her)
@AlbertaGravel @ajoneswilkins@iRunFar Do it! It's tough but beautiful and the trail community on Vancouver Island comes out in full force to volunteer. Such a fun weekend. https://t.co/Gejml1aWqG
People will pay thousands of dollars to visit great examples of walkable urbanism around the world… then fight every aspect of it when they get home to their own communities.
just to be very clear about why many people seem upset about this comparison:
- in the video, the pedestrian is not breaking any laws but the driver is
- the driver can be moderately inconvenienced for 2-3 seconds while the pedestrian can be killed

@busdriverlife@renomate ...well there's uproar right now in the @GorgeTillicum. Over 70 people on 6 days notice squeezed into a meeting room at Saanich neighbourhood place to get back their reliable bus service.
This is our current neighbourhood bus to downtown. Anyone familiar with the Gorge Tillicum neighbourhood will notice it's going in the opposite direction of downtown. Here's why...
@Trevor4saanich@mauriciocurbelo Nothing to do with road geometry. It's a routing change with service cut to a third. They just used the temporary road closure and reopening timing to slide in the change so it gives the appearance, to some, that the new bike lanes are responsible.
@busdriverlife@renomate Long term, yes. In the short term we don't need good bus service (tail end of #11's route) replaced by empty buses (#24 & #25) driving circuitously through Esquimalt on their way to downtown.
Good transit service is a crucial part of active transportation. Buses that run once an hour on a milk run do not encourage people to get out of their cars. This is also a matter of accessibility and safety. Hoping that someone on the Transit Commission will quickly do something.
It's ridiculous to think my neighbourhood, which is supposedly encouraging density and active transportation (@TealePB), had better bus service in the 1970s than now.
