Explore Rusinga Island - a historic island on L. Victoria| We are on the tentative list of World Heritage Sites| Life in Rusinga| We retweet #RusingaIsland 💙
I made it to Rusinga Island, that hallowed patch of earth where a Kenyan legend’s powerful legacy and spirit live on. When you visit Tom Mboya’s Mausoleum, something get’s stirred up within you. Then there is the epitaph which bears the force of a bullet.
In the early days of Jan, I spent 3 days sightseeing through The Bay(Homa). Seeing Mbita, Rusinga Island, and Mfangano Island by bike was more than I hoped for. This country and its people are beautiful. Grateful that I got to do it 🫠🏝️🚴🏿♂️🏊🏿♂️
This festive season, let us honor our traditions & celebrate the richness of our diverse cultures. From the vibrant shores of @RusingaIsland to wherever you may be, may your holiday be filled with love & cultural pride.

The Abasuba people are a heterogeneous Bantu group drawn from the Ganda people, Luhya people, and Soga who are mostly concentrated in Rusinga and Mfangano islands with small pockets in mainland Kenya.
Although their own language has been classified as endangered the Abasuba have kept a distinct ethnic identity regardless of being highly influenced by the neighbouring Luo tribe.
