Why doesn’t the NFL just get rid of the legal tampering period? A lot of this crap is avoided by doing so but that doesn’t make for people constantly talking about the league…
At the end of the day, for a player like Crosby and the way he plays, having other potential things structurally in the knee that could alter how fast he recovers but also potentially impede his ability to play at that high level for long, it’s a tough call.
The Trey Hendrickson signing takes the sting of losing Crosby away a bit but I think TH is a much different player than Crosby. Hendrickson coming off sports hernia surgery as well so while it’s unlikely he’ll fail his physical, the optics just look pretty bad for the Ravens.
I wanted Crosby bad, the dude is an absolute game wrecker when he’s healthy so I was stunned to see this unfold last night. Reminds me Todd Gurley (diff positions and stress I understand that) where after his ACL there was early onset arthritis that changed his long term outlook.
It’s not a great look for the Ravens, I 100% get that, but in the sports medicine realm you’re going have all sorts of doctors, therapists, and people who are willing to take on risk and those who aren’t. The Ravens staff felt that it wasn’t worth the long term risk.
As someone who sees these knee injuries often and also a Ravens fan, the bone stress injury and cartilage issues in addition to the meniscus repair is a red flag. Clearly there was more going on than just the repair and long term was Crosby’s contract worth the 2 1st rd picks? 🤷♂️
Maxx Crosby is eight weeks from having meniscus surgery and got off crutches only last week. He is on schedule, and they are working to get him ready for the regular-season opener.
Here is what Crosby’s knee surgeon, Dr. Neal ElAttrache, said to ESPN this morning:
“Maxx Crosby is doing very well in the early part of his rehab and recovery from surgery to treat a significant meniscus tear and the related stress injury to the bone and cartilage in his knee. He is certainly on track in his planned program….he feels very well and is already much improved compared to before surgery.
“We truly respect the work of the Ravens staff with Maxx regarding the contract physical exam. We also understand the challenge the staff faces when tasked to provide a future risk assessment based on an evaluation early in the recovery process. This is especially challenging when dealing with an elite player like Maxx considering the level of commitment necessary for a team to obtain him. The timing of this assessment is unfortunate because the apparent risk will lessen as his recovery progresses and his return to performance over the next few months becomes clear.
“At this point, Max is doing
an excellent job attacking his rehab and his knee is responding very well. We look forward to Maxx returning to his elite level of performance this season as planned and for several more to come.”
@itsahooded4iron While I’m not in love with the idea of Kingsbury or Brady, it seems like for a first time head coach he’d want some experience to be able to continue to elevate the offense (esp with Henry still playing at an all pro level) while Minter sorts out the D.

@koestreicher34 what are your thoughts on Mike McDaniel? Seems like he could get HC opportunities so not sure if he’d be around to be the OC for Ravens, but definitely an intriguing name to watch.
People forget that if Flacco didn’t get hurt in ‘18, Lamar sits until the following season which means Harbaugh is likely fired. The fact that we’re even having a conversation of who should go, Harbaugh or Lamar is comical. Harbaugh doesn’t survive these last 8 yrs without Lamar
“Just Special Enough?” Lamar slander continues to be outrageous. Dude had the Ravens in position to win with 2 TD’s and set up the GW FG in the 2nd half but still it isn’t enough for people.
“This is weirdly the worst possible outcome if you’re the Ravens.”
@BillSimmons on Baltimore’s heartbreaking end to the season and the questions they may face heading into the offseason.
The national media is clueless. Anyone who has truly watched this team over the last two years has seen that the defense, which Orr inherited from Mike MacDonald, has been absolutely awful. But yet they’re talking about Monken being the problem and let go? What a joke.
