On this 81st anniversary of the D-Day landing, we remember the valor and sacrifice of so many.
One of our own, 1st Lt. Jimmie Monteith Jr., was one of four Medal of Honor recipients from actions during the D-Day landing. His citation is linked here:

September 19, 2009: @TyrodTaylor leads Virginia Tech on an 88-yard TD drive in the final two minutes to give the Hokies a 16-15 win over Nebraska in Blacksburg.
Sean McDonough on the call.
When I was 26 I visited Normandy. Profoundly powerful place. I came upon this marker and soon learned the story of Jimmie Monteith. A 26 year old kid from Virginia whose individual bravery on #DDay is thought to be directly responsible for the victory. https://t.co/CeyrF1Uc0N
What a classy gesture by @UVASoftball tonight in their game with @HokiesSoftball. Instead of lining up down the 3rd base line, the Hoos elected to stand on the 1st base line beside the Hokies in a show of unity for the horrific shootings at VT 17 yrs ago today.❤️
